What does Exodus 14:31 mean?
True miracles are always meant to support some message from God. The plagues on Egypt (Exodus 7:21; 8:6, 17, 24; 9:6, 10, 24; 10:14, 23; 12:29–32) proved that Israel's God was real, and that Egyptian idols were powerless. They also made it clear that the Lord was working on behalf of the people of Israel (Exodus 3:19–20). The people just witnessed a spectacular miracle (Exodus 14:21–28). They rightly recognize these proofs of God's power. Their response is a reverent, honoring form of "fear," rather than panic or dread (Proverbs 1:7). They also affirm that the Lord is using Moses as a spokesman.Israel is not only free from slavery, but also from even the threat of slavery. The next chapter records their celebration of these events.
