What does Exodus 6:7 mean?

The prior verse (Exodus 6:6) began a series of seven things which the Lord definitively states "I will" accom-plish. The first three reiterated His plans for Moses (Exodus 3:16–20). The two included here lead into a statement about what Israel will do in response.

The Lord promises to make Israel His people (Deuteronomy 7:6). They will enjoy a special relationship with God, including being the earthly family of mankind's Savior, Jesus (Genesis 12:1–3; John 4:22). They will worship Him, and Him alone (Exodus 20:3–6). He will become known as "the God of Israel" (Exodus 5:1; Judges 4:6; Ezra 9:15; Luke 1:68). The people would come to understand His nature, at first, through the incredible miracles He will use to free them from Egypt (Exodus 6:6).

Next, the Lord will repeat His promise to Abraham regarding the Promised Land (Exodus 6:8; Genesis 12:6–7; 17:8). Moses will pass this message along (Exodus 6:9), but the Hebrews will be too bitter over their recent troubles (Exodus 5:6–9, 20–21) to take it to heart.
