Ezra chapter 1
English Standard Version
1
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the
Lord
by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the
Lord
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing:
2
"Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: The
Lord
, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
3
Whoever is among you of all his people, may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and rebuild the house of the
Lord
, the God of Israel — he is the God who is in Jerusalem.
4
And let each survivor, in whatever place he sojourns, be assisted by the men of his place with silver and gold, with goods and with beasts, besides freewill offerings for the house of God that is in Jerusalem."
5
Then rose up the heads of the fathers ' houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up to rebuild the house of the
Lord
that is in Jerusalem.
6
And all who were about them aided them with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, with beasts, and with costly wares, besides all that was freely offered.
7
Cyrus the king also brought out the vessels of the house of the
Lord
that Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and placed in the house of his gods.
8
Cyrus king of Persia brought these out in the charge of Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
9
And this was the number of them: 30 basins of gold, 1,000 basins of silver, 29 censers,
10
30 bowls of gold, 410 bowls of silver, and 1,000 other vessels;
11
all the vessels of gold and of silver were 5,400. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up, when the exiles were brought up from Babylonia to Jerusalem.
New International Version
1
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the
Lord
spoken by Jeremiah, the
Lord
moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:
2
"This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: " ‘The
Lord
, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.
3
Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the
Lord
, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them.
4
And in any locality where survivors may now be living, the people are to provide them with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with freewill offerings for the temple of God in Jerusalem.’ "
5
Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites—everyone whose heart God had moved—prepared to go up and build the house of the
Lord
in Jerusalem.
6
All their neighbors assisted them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with valuable gifts, in addition to all the freewill offerings.
7
Moreover, King Cyrus brought out the articles belonging to the temple of the
Lord
, which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and had placed in the temple of his god.
8
Cyrus king of Persia had them brought by Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
9
This was the inventory:
gold dishes — 30 silver dishes — 1,000 silver pans — 29
10
gold bowls — 30 matching silver bowls — 410 other articles — 1,000
11
In all, there were 5,400 articles of gold and of silver. Sheshbazzar brought all these along with the exiles when they came up from Babylon to Jerusalem.

5
Then the heads of fathers’
households
of Judah and Benjamin and the priests and the Levites rose up, everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up to rebuild the house of the
Lord
which is in Jerusalem.
6
And all of those around them encouraged them with articles of silver, with gold, with equipment, cattle, and with valuables, aside from everything that was given as a voluntary offering.
7
Also King Cyrus brought out the articles of the house of the
Lord
, which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and put in the house of his gods;
8
and Cyrus, king of Persia, had them brought out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and he counted them out to Sheshbazzar, the leader of Judah.
9
Now this
was
their number: thirty gold dishes, a thousand silver dishes, twenty nine duplicates;
10
thirty gold bowls, 410 silver bowls of a second
kind, and
a thousand other articles.
11
All the articles of gold and silver
totaled
5,400. Sheshbazzar brought them all up with the exiles who went up from Babylon to Jerusalem.

5
So the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and Levites—everyone whose spirit God had roused —prepared to go up and rebuild the

9
This was the inventory:
30 gold basins, 1,000 silver basins, 29 silver knives,
10
30 gold bowls, 410 various silver bowls, and 1,000 other articles.
11
The gold and silver articles totaled 5,400. Sheshbazzar brought all of them when the exiles went up from Babylon to Jerusalem.
New Living Translation
1
In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the
Lord
fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:
2
'This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: 'The
Lord
, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build him a Temple at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
3
Any of you who are his people may go to Jerusalem in Judah to rebuild this Temple of the
Lord
, the God of Israel, who lives in Jerusalem. And may your God be with you!
4
Wherever this Jewish remnant is found, let their neighbors contribute toward their expenses by giving them silver and gold, supplies for the journey, and livestock, as well as a voluntary offering for the Temple of God in Jerusalem.'
5
Then God stirred the hearts of the priests and Levites and the leaders of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin to go to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple of the
Lord
.
6
And all their neighbors assisted by giving them articles of silver and gold, supplies for the journey, and livestock. They gave them many valuable gifts in addition to all the voluntary offerings.
7
King Cyrus himself brought out the articles that King Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the
Lord
’s Temple in Jerusalem and had placed in the temple of his own gods.
8
Cyrus directed Mithredath, the treasurer of Persia, to count these items and present them to Sheshbazzar, the leader of the exiles returning to Judah.
9
This is a list of the items that were returned:
gold basins — 30
silver basins — 1,000
silver incense burners — 29
10
gold bowls — 30
silver bowls — 410
other items — 1,000
11
In all, there were 5,400 articles of gold and silver. Sheshbazzar brought all of these along when the exiles went from Babylon to Jerusalem.

Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the
