Leviticus chapter 18

1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2"Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, I am the Lord your God. 3You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. 4You shall follow my rules and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the Lord your God. 5You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.
6"None of you shall approach any one of his close relatives to uncover nakedness. I am the Lord. 7You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness. 8You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father 's wife; it is your father 's nakedness. 9You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, your father 's daughter or your mother 's daughter, whether brought up in the family or in another home. 10You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son 's daughter or of your daughter 's daughter, for their nakedness is your own nakedness. 11You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father 's wife 's daughter, brought up in your father 's family, since she is your sister. 12You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father 's sister; she is your father 's relative. 13You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother 's sister, for she is your mother 's relative. 14You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father 's brother, that is, you shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt. 15You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son 's wife, you shall not uncover her nakedness. 16You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother 's wife; it is your brother 's nakedness. 17You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, and you shall not take her son 's daughter or her daughter 's daughter to uncover her nakedness; they are relatives; it is depravity. 18And you shall not take a woman as a rival wife to her sister, uncovering her nakedness while her sister is still alive.
19"You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness. 20And you shall not lie sexually with your neighbor 's wife and so make yourself unclean with her. 21You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord. 22You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. 23And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion.
24"Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean, 25and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26But you shall keep my statutes and my rules and do none of these abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you 27(for the people of the land, who were before you, did all of these abominations, so that the land became unclean), 28lest the land vomit you out when you make it unclean, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. 29For everyone who does any of these abominations, the persons who do them shall be cut off from among their people. 30So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God."

1The Lord said to Moses, 2"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. 3You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. 4You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. 5Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.
6" ‘No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the Lord.
7" ‘Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.
8" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.
9" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
10" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter; that would dishonor you.
11" ‘Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
12" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
13" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.
14" ‘Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.
15" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; do not have relations with her.
16" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.
17" ‘Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.
18" ‘Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.
19" ‘Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.
20" ‘Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.
21" ‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.
22" ‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.
23" ‘Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.
24" ‘Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. 25Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, 27for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. 28And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.
29" ‘Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people. 30Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’ "

She is your mother; you are not to uncover her nakedness. 8You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. 9As for the nakedness of your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether born in the household or born outside the household, you shall not uncover their nakedness. 10The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for their nakedness is yours. 11The nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, born to your father, she is your sister; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 12You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s blood relative. 13You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s blood relative. 14You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother. You shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt. 15You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 16You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness. 17You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, nor shall you take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are blood relatives. It is an outrageous sin. 18And you shall not marry a woman in addition to her sister as a second wife while she is alive, to uncover her nakedness.
19‘Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her menstrual impurity. 20And you shall not have sexual intercourse with your neighbor’s wife, to be defiled with her. 21You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God; I am the Lord. 22You shall not sleep with a male as one sleeps with a female; it is an abomination. 23Also you shall not have sexual intercourse with any animal to be defiled with it, nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion.
24‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these things the nations which I am driving out from you have become defiled. 25For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land has vomited out its inhabitants. 26But as for you, you are to keep My statutes and My judgments, and you shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native, nor the stranger who resides among you 27(for the people of the land who were there before you did all these abominations, and the land has become defiled), 28so that the land will not vomit you out should you defile it, as it has vomited out the nation which was there before you. 29For whoever does any of these abominations, those persons who do so shall be cut off from among their people. 30So you are to keep your commitment to Me not to practice any of the abominable customs which have been practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves with them; I am the Lord your God.’?'

6"You are not to come near any close relative for sexual intercourse; I am the Lord. 7You are not to violate the intimacy that belongs to your father and mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual intercourse with her. 8You are not to have sex with your father’s wife; she is your father’s family. 9You are not to have sexual intercourse with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s, whether born at home or born elsewhere. You are not to have sex with her. 10You are not to have sexual intercourse with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for they are your family. 11You are not to have sexual intercourse with your father’s wife’s daughter, who is adopted by your father; she is your sister. 12You are not to have sexual intercourse with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative. 13You are not to have sexual intercourse with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative. 14You are not to violate the intimacy that belongs to your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual intercourse; she is your aunt. 15You are not to have sexual intercourse with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; you are not to have sex with her. 16You are not to have sexual intercourse with your brother’s wife; she is your brother’s family. 17You are not to have sexual intercourse with a woman and her daughter. You are not to marry her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter and have sex with her. They are close relatives; it is depraved. 18You are not to marry a woman as a rival to her sister and have sexual intercourse with her during her sister’s lifetime.
19"You are not to approach a woman during her menstrual impurity to have sexual intercourse with her. 20You are not to have sexual intercourse with your neighbor’s wife, defiling yourself with her.
21"You are not to sacrifice any of your children in the fire to Molech. Do not profane the name of your God; I am the Lord. 22You are not to sleep with a man as with a woman; it is detestable. 23You are not to have sexual intercourse with any animal, defiling yourself with it; a woman is not to present herself to an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion.
24"Do not defile yourselves by any of these practices, for the nations I am driving out before you have defiled themselves by all these things. 25The land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its iniquity, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants. 26But you are to keep my statutes and ordinances. You must not commit any of these detestable acts—not the native or the alien who resides among you. 27For the people who were in the land prior to you have committed all these detestable acts, and the land has become defiled. 28If you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it has vomited out the nations that were before you. 29Any person who does any of these detestable practices is to be cut off from his people. 30You must keep my instruction to not do any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them; I am the Lord your God."
New Living Translation

1Then the Lord said to Moses, 2Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. I am the Lord your God. 3So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life. 4You must obey all my regulations and be careful to obey my decrees, for I am the Lord your God. 5If you obey my decrees and my regulations, you will find life through them. I am the Lord.
6You must never have sexual relations with a close relative, for I am the Lord.
7Do not violate your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual relations with her.
8Do not have sexual relations with any of your father’s wives, for this would violate your father.
9Do not have sexual relations with your sister or half sister, whether she is your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born into your household or someone else’s.
10Do not have sexual relations with your granddaughter, whether she is your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for this would violate yourself.
11Do not have sexual relations with your stepsister, the daughter of any of your father’s wives, for she is your sister.
12Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister, for she is your father’s close relative.
13Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.
14Do not violate your uncle, your father’s brother, by having sexual relations with his wife, for she is your aunt.
15Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, so you must not have sexual relations with her.
16Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife, for this would violate your brother.
17Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. And do not take her granddaughter, whether her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter, and have sexual relations with her. They are close relatives, and this would be a wicked act.
18While your wife is living, do not marry her sister and have sexual relations with her, for they would be rivals.
19Do not have sexual relations with a woman during her period of menstrual impurity.
20Do not defile yourself by having sexual intercourse with your neighbor’s wife.
21Do not permit any of your children to be offered as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not bring shame on the name of your God. I am the Lord.
22Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.
23A man must not defile himself by having sex with an animal. And a woman must not offer herself to a male animal to have intercourse with it. This is a perverse act.
24Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, for the people I am driving out before you have defiled themselves in all these ways. 25Because the entire land has become defiled, I am punishing the people who live there. I will cause the land to vomit them out. 26You must obey all my decrees and regulations. You must not commit any of these detestable sins. This applies both to native-born Israelites and to the foreigners living among you.
27All these detestable activities are practiced by the people of the land where I am taking you, and this is how the land has become defiled. 28So do not defile the land and give it a reason to vomit you out, as it will vomit out the people who live there now. 29Whoever commits any of these detestable sins will be cut off from the community of Israel. 30So obey my instructions, and do not defile yourselves by committing any of these detestable practices that were committed by the people who lived in the land before you. I am the Lord your God.'
