Micah chapter 2

English Standard Version

1 Woe to those who devise wickedness and work evil on their beds! When the morning dawns, they perform it, because it is in the power of their hand. 2They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them away; they oppress a man and his house, a man and his inheritance. 3Therefore thus says the Lord: behold, against this family I am devising disaster, from which you cannot remove your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of disaster. 4In that day they shall take up a taunt song against you and moan bitterly, and say, "We are utterly ruined; he changes the portion of my people; how he removes it from me! To an apostate he allots our fields." 5Therefore you will have none to cast the line by lot in the assembly of the Lord. 6 "Do not preach" — thus they preach — "one should not preach of such things; disgrace will not overtake us." 7Should this be said, O house of Jacob? Has the Lord grown impatient? Are these his deeds? Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly? 8But lately my people have risen up as an enemy; you strip the rich robe from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war. 9The women of my people you drive out from their delightful houses; from their young children you take away my splendor forever. 10 Arise and go, for this is no place to rest, because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction. 11If a man should go about and utter wind and lies, saying, "I will preach to you of wine and strong drink," he would be the preacher for this people! 12I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob; I will gather the remnant of Israel; I will set them together like sheep in a fold, like a flock in its pasture, a noisy multitude of men. 13 He who opens the breach goes up before them; they break through and pass the gate, going out by it. Their king passes on before them, the Lord at their head.

1Woe to those who devise wrongdoing, Who practice evil on their beds! When morning comes, they do it, Because it is in the power of their hands. 2They covet fields, so they seize them; And houses, so they take them. They exploit a man and his house, A person and his inheritance. 3Therefore this is what the Lord says: 'Behold, I am planning against this family a catastrophe From which you cannot remove your necks; And you will not walk haughtily, For it will be an evil time. 4On that day they will take up against you a song of mocking And utter a song of mourning and say, ‘We are completely destroyed! He exchanges the share of my people; How He removes it from me! To the apostate He apportions our fields.’ 5Therefore you will have no one applying a measuring line For you by lot in the assembly of the Lord. 6‘Do not prophesy,’ so they prophesy. But if they do not prophesy about these things, Insults will not be turned back. 7Is it being said, house of Jacob: ‘Is the Spirit of the Lord impatient? Are these His works?’ Do My words not do good For the one walking rightly? 8 Recently My people have arisen as an enemy— You strip the robe off the garment From unsuspecting passers-by, From those returned from war. 9You evict the women of My people, Each one from her pleasant house. From her children you take My splendor forever. 10Arise and go, For this is no place of rest Because of the uncleanness that brings on destruction, A painful destruction. 11If someone walking after wind and falsehood Had lied and said, ‘I will prophesy to you about wine and liquor,’ He would become a prophet to this people. 12'I will certainly assemble all of you, Jacob, I will certainly gather the remnant of Israel. I will put them together like sheep in the fold; Like a flock in the midst of its pasture They will be noisy with people. 13The one who breaks through goes up before them; They break through, pass through the gate, and go out by it. So their king passes on before them, And the Lord at their head.'
Christian Standard Bible

3Therefore, the Lord says: I am now planning a disaster against this nation; you cannot free your necks from it. Then you will not walk so proudly because it will be an evil time. 4In that day one will take up a taunt against you and lament mournfully, saying, "We are totally ruined! He measures out the allotted land of my people. How he removes it from me! He allots our fields to traitors." 5Therefore, there will be no one in the assembly of the Lord to divide the land by casting lots. 6"Quit your preaching," they preach. "They should not preach these things; shame will not overtake us." 7House of Jacob, should it be asked, "Is the Spirit of the Lord impatient? Are these the things he does?" Don’t my words bring good to the one who walks uprightly? 8But recently my people have risen up like an enemy: You strip off the splendid robe from those who are passing through confidently, like those returning from war. 9You force the women of my people out of their comfortable homes, and you take my blessing from their children forever. 10Get up and leave, for this is not your place of rest because defilement brings destruction— a grievous destruction! 11If a man comes and utters empty lies— "I will preach to you about wine and beer"— he would be just the preacher for this people! 12I will indeed gather all of you, Jacob; I will collect the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in the middle of its pasture. It will be noisy with people. 13One who breaks open the way will advance before them; they will break out, pass through the city gate, and leave by it. Their King will pass through before them, the Lord as their leader.

New King James Version

3Therefore thus says the Lord: “Behold, against this family I am devising disaster, From which you cannot remove your necks; Nor shall you walk haughtily, For this is an evil time. 4In that day one shall take up a proverb against you, And lament with a bitter lamentation, saying: ‘We are utterly destroyed! He has changed the heritage of my people; How He has removed it from me! To a turncoat He has divided our fields.’ ” 5Therefore you will have no one to determine boundaries by lot In the assembly of the Lord. 6“Do not prattle,” you say to those who prophesy. So they shall not prophesy to you; They shall not return insult for insult. 7 You who are named the house of Jacob: “Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good To him who walks uprightly? 8“Lately My people have risen up as an enemy— You pull off the robe with the garment From those who trust you, as they pass by, Like men returned from war. 9The women of My people you cast out From their pleasant houses; From their children You have taken away My glory forever. 10“Arise and depart, For this is not your rest; Because it is defiled, it shall destroy, Yes, with utter destruction. 11If a man should walk in a false spirit And speak a lie, saying, ‘I will prophesy to you of wine and drink,’ Even he would be the prattler of this people. 12“I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together like sheep of the fold, Like a flock in the midst of their pasture; They shall make a loud noise because of so many people. 13The one who breaks open will come up before them; They will break out, Pass through the gate, And go out by it; Their king will pass before them, With the Lord at their head.”
