1 Chronicles 14:10-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
10
David inquired of God, saying, 'Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You hand them over to me?' Then the
Lord
said to him, 'Go up, for I will hand them over to you.'
11
So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, 'God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.' Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim.
12
They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire.
13
The Philistines carried out yet another raid in the valley.
King James Version
Chapter 14
10
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the
Lord
said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11
So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
12
And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13
And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 14
10
so David inquired of God, "Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The
Lord
replied, "Attack, and I will hand them over to you."
11
So the Israelites went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, "Like a bursting flood, God has used me to burst out against my enemies." Therefore, they named that place The Lord Bursts Out.
12
The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
13
Once again the Philistines raided in the valley.
New Living Translation
Chapter 14
10
So David asked God, 'Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?' The
Lord
replied, 'Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.'
11
So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. 'God did it!' David exclaimed. 'He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!' So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means 'the Lord who bursts through').
12
The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, so David gave orders to burn them.
13
But after a while the Philistines returned and raided the valley again.
English Standard Version
