1 Chronicles 16:4-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 16
4
He appointed some of the Levites
as
ministers before the ark of the
Lord
, to celebrate and to thank and praise the
Lord
God of Israel:
5
Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah,
then
Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with
musical
instruments, harps,
and
lyres; also Asaph
played
loud-sounding cymbals,
6
and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel
blew
trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
7
Then on that day David first assigned Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the
Lord
.
8
Give thanks to the
Lord
, call upon His name;
Make His deeds known among the peoples.
9
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
Speak of all His wonders.
10
Boast in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the
Lord
be joyful.
11
Seek the
Lord
and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
King James Version
Chapter 16
4
And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the
Lord
, and to record, and to thank and praise the
Lord
God of Israel:
5
Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
6
Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
7
Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the
Lord
into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.
8
Give thanks unto the
Lord
, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
9
Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.
10
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the
Lord
.
11
Seek the
Lord
and his strength, seek his face continually.

4
David appointed some of the Levites to be ministers before the ark of the
Lord
, to celebrate the
Lord
God of Israel, and to give thanks and praise to him.
5
Asaph was the chief and Zechariah was second to him. Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel played the harps and lyres, while Asaph sounded the cymbals
6

7
On that day David decreed for the first time that thanks be given to the
Lord
by Asaph and his relatives:
8
Give thanks to the
Lord
; call on his name;
proclaim his deeds among the peoples.
9
Sing to him; sing praise to him;
tell about all his wondrous works!
10
Honor his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the
Lord
rejoice.
11
Seek the
Lord
and his strength;
seek his face always.
New Living Translation
Chapter 16
4
David appointed the following Levites to lead the people in worship before the Ark of the
Lord
— to invoke his blessings, to give thanks, and to praise the
Lord
, the God of Israel.
5
Asaph, the leader of this group, sounded the cymbals. Second to him was Zechariah, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They played the harps and lyres.
6
The priests, Benaiah and Jahaziel, played the trumpets regularly before the Ark of God’s Covenant.
7
On that day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the
Lord
:
8
Give thanks to the
Lord
and proclaim his greatness.
Let the whole world know what he has done.
9
Sing to him; yes, sing his praises.
Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.
10
Exult in his holy name;
rejoice, you who worship the
Lord
.
11
Search for the
Lord
and for his strength;
continually seek him.
