1 Chronicles 17:7-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
7
Now, therefore, this is what you shall say to My servant David: ‘This is what the
Lord
of armies says: 'I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.
8
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have eliminated all your enemies from you; and I will make for you a name like the name of the great ones who are on the earth.
9
And I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them
there,
so that they may live in their own place and not tremble
with anxiety
again; and the wicked will not make them waste away anymore as
they did
previously,
10
even from the day that I commanded judges
to be
over My people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I tell you that the
Lord
will build a house for you.
11
When your days are fulfilled that you must go
to be
with your fathers, then I will set up
one of
your descendants after you, who will be from your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12
He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
13
I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My favor away from him, as I took it from him who was before you.
14
But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.'?’?'
15
According to all these words and according to all of this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.
16
Then King David came in and sat before the
Lord
, and said, 'Who am I,
Lord
God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?
King James Version
Chapter 17
7
Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the
Lord
of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
8
And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9
Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
10
And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the
Lord
will build thee an house.
11
And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12
He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14
But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.
15
According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
16
And David the king came and sat before the
Lord
, and said, Who am I, O
Lord
God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 17
7
"So now this is what you are to say to my servant David: ‘This is what the
Lord
of Armies says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, to be ruler over my people Israel.
8
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest on the earth.
9
I will designate a place for my people Israel and plant them, so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not continue to oppress them as they have done
10
ever since the day I ordered judges to be over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. "‘Furthermore, I declare to you that the
Lord
himself will build a house for you.
11
When your time comes to be with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who is one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
12
He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
13
I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will not remove my faithful love from him as I removed it from the one who was before you.
14
I will appoint him over my house and my kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.’"
15
Nathan reported all these words and this entire vision to David.
16
Then King David went in, sat in the
Lord
’s presence, and said, Who am I,
Lord
God, and what is my house that you have brought me this far?
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
7
'Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel.
8
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth!
9
And I will provide a homeland for my people Israel, planting them in a secure place where they will never be disturbed. Evil nations won’t oppress them as they’ve done in the past,
10
starting from the time I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. And I will defeat all your enemies. '‘Furthermore, I declare that the
Lord
will build a house for you — a dynasty of kings!
11
For when you die and join your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, one of your sons, and I will make his kingdom strong.
12
He is the one who will build a house — a temple — for me. And I will secure his throne forever.
13
I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my favor from him as I took it from the one who ruled before you.
14
I will confirm him as king over my house and my kingdom for all time, and his throne will be secure forever.’'
15
So Nathan went back to David and told him everything the
Lord
had said in this vision.
16
Then King David went in and sat before the
Lord
and prayed,
'Who am I, O
Lord
God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?

Chapter 17
7
Now, therefore, thus shall you say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the
Lord
of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel,
8
and I have been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a name, like the name of the great ones of the earth.
9
And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall waste them no more, as formerly,
10
from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the
Lord
will build you a house.
11
When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
12
He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
13
I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you,
14
but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.’"
15
In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.
16
Then King David went in and sat before the
Lord
and said, "Who am I, O

7
"Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the

Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.
8
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth.

12
He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
13
I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.
14
I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.’ "
15
Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
