8Koz fathered Anub and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel, the son of Harum. 9Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez, saying, 'Because I gave birth to him in pain.' 10Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, 'Oh that You would greatly bless me and extend my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm so that it would not hurt me!' 9And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
10And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

9There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful.
10He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, 'Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!' And God granted him his request.
