1 Corinthians 10:4-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 10
4and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. 5Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased; for their dead bodies were spread out in the wilderness.
6Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they indeed craved them.
7Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: 'THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND TO DRINK, AND ROSE UP TO PLAY.'
8Nor are we to commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
9Nor are we to put the Lord to the test, as some of them did, and were killed by the snakes.
10Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroyer.
11Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12Therefore let the one who thinks he stands watch out that he does not fall.
13No temptation has overtaken you except something common to mankind; and God is faithful, so He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
14Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15I speak as to wise people; you then, judge what I say.
16Is the cup of blessing which we bless not a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is the bread which we break not a sharing in the body of Christ?
17Since there is one loaf, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf.
18Look at the people of Israel; are those who eat the sacrifices not partners in the altar?
King James Version
Chapter 10
4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 11Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 10
4and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ. 5Nevertheless God was not pleased with most of them, since they were struck down in the wilderness.
6Now these things took place as examples for us, so that we will not desire evil things as they did.
7Don’t become idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to party.
8Let us not commit sexual immorality as some of them did, and in a single day twenty-three thousand people died.
9Let us not test Christ as some of them did and were destroyed by snakes.
10And don’t complain as some of them did, and were killed by the destroyer.
11These things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
12So, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall.
13No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide a way out so that you may be able to bear it.
14So then, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
15I am speaking as to sensible people. Judge for yourselves what I am saying.
16The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
17Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, since all of us share the one bread.
18Consider the people of Israel. Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?
New Living Translation
Chapter 10
4and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ. 5Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
6These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did,
7or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, 'The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.'
8And we must not engage in sexual immorality as some of them did, causing 23,000 of them to die in one day.
9Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites.
10And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death.
11These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.
12If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.
13The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
14So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols.
15You are reasonable people. Decide for yourselves if what I am saying is true.
16When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ?
17And though we are many, we all eat from one loaf of bread, showing that we are one body.
18Think about the people of Israel. Weren’t they united by eating the sacrifices at the altar?

12Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
13No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
14Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.

Chapter 10
4and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
6Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.
7Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry."
8We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.
9We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.
10And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.
11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.
12So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
13No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
14Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.
15I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.
16Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
17Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
