Chapter 2

6the one who says that he remains in Him ought, himself also, walk just as He walked.
7Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining. 9The one who says that he is in the Light and yet hates his brother or sister is in the darkness until now.

6He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. 9He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.
9If anyone claims, 'I am living in the light,' but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness.
