1 John 3:15-19
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
15Everyone who hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him. 16We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers and sisters. 17But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him? 18Little children, let’s not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 19We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will set our heart at ease before Him,King James Version
Chapter 3
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.Christian Standard Bible

We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17If anyone has this world’s goods and sees a fellow believer in need but withholds compassion from him—how does God’s love reside in him? 18Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.New Living Translation
