1 John 4:5-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
5They are from the world, therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God. The one who knows God listens to us; the one who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
7Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9By this the love of God was revealed in us, that God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him.
10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
King James Version
Chapter 4
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 4
5They are from the world. Therefore what they say is from the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God. Anyone who knows God listens to us; anyone who is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.
7Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
10Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another.
New Living Translation
Chapter 4
5Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them. 6But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.
7Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
8But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
English Standard Version
Chapter 4
5They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
8Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
10In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
New International Version
Chapter 4
5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
New King James Version
