Chapter 9
1Now it came about when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord and the king’s house, and all that Solomon desired to do, 2that the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3And the Lord said to him, 'I have heard your prayer and your plea which you have offered before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built, by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there always. 4As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and honesty, acting in accordance with everything that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My ordinances, 5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised to your father David, saying, ‘ You shall not be deprived of a man on the throne of Israel.’
6But if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have placed before you, but you go and serve other gods and worship them,
7then I will cut Israel off from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will expel from My sight. So Israel will become a saying and an object of derision among all peoples.
8And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by it will be appalled and hiss and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and this house?’
9And they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped and served them, for that reason the Lord has brought all this adversity on them.’?'
10Now it came about at the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord and the king’s house
11(Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and juniper timber and gold, satisfying all his desire), that King Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12So Hiram left Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they did not please him.
13And he said, 'What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?' So they have been called the land of Cabul to this day.
14And Hiram sent to the king 120 talents of gold.
15Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon conscripted to build the house of the Lord, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and overthrown Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city; and he had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
17So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower Beth-horon,

6But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:
7Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:
8And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and to this house?
9And they shall answer, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.
10And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the king's house,
11(Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.
13And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.
14And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.
15And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.
16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.
17And Solomon built Gezer, and Bethhoron the nether,

1When Solomon finished building the temple of the Lord, the royal palace, and all that Solomon desired to do, 2the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time just as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.
4As for you, if you walk before me as your father David walked, with a heart of integrity and in what is right, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep my statutes and ordinances,
5I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.
6If you or your sons turn away from following me and do not keep my commands—my statutes that I have set before you—and if you go and serve other gods and bow in worship to them,
7I will cut off Israel from the land I gave them, and I will reject the temple I have sanctified for my name. Israel will become an object of scorn and ridicule among all the peoples.
8Though this temple is now exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will scoff. They will say: Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple?
9Then they will say: Because they abandoned the Lord their God who brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt. They held on to other gods and bowed in worship to them and served them. Because of this, the Lord brought all this ruin on them.
10At the end of twenty years during which Solomon had built the two houses, the Lord’s temple and the royal palace —
11King Hiram of Tyre having supplied him with cedar and cypress logs and gold for his every wish —King Solomon gave Hiram twenty towns in the land of Galilee.
12So Hiram went out from Tyre to look over the towns that Solomon had given him, but he was not pleased with them.
13So he said, "What are these towns you’ve given me, my brother?" So he called them the Land of Cabul, as they are still called today.
14Now Hiram had sent the king nine thousand pounds of gold.
15This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon had imposed to build the Lord’s temple, his own palace, the supporting terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
16Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He then burned it, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

1So Solomon finished building the Temple of the Lord, as well as the royal palace. He completed everything he had planned to do. 2Then the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had done before at Gibeon.
4'As for you, if you will follow me with integrity and godliness, as David your father did, obeying all my commands, decrees, and regulations,
5then I will establish the throne of your dynasty over Israel forever. For I made this promise to your father, David: ‘One of your descendants will always sit on the throne of Israel.’
6'But if you or your descendants abandon me and disobey the commands and decrees I have given you, and if you serve and worship other gods,
7then I will uproot Israel from this land that I have given them. I will reject this Temple that I have made holy to honor my name. I will make Israel an object of mockery and ridicule among the nations.
8And though this Temple is impressive now, all who pass by will be appalled and will gasp in horror. They will ask, ‘Why did the Lord do such terrible things to this land and to this Temple?’
10It took Solomon twenty years to build the Lord’s Temple and his own royal palace. At the end of that time,
11he gave twenty towns in the land of Galilee to King Hiram of Tyre. (Hiram had previously provided all the cedar and cypress timber and gold that Solomon had requested.)
12But when Hiram came from Tyre to see the towns Solomon had given him, he was not at all pleased with them.
13What kind of towns are these, my brother?' he asked. So Hiram called that area Cabul (which means 'worthless'), as it is still known today.
14Nevertheless, Hiram paid Solomon 9,000 pounds of gold.
15This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon conscripted to build the Lord’s Temple, the royal palace, the supporting terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and the cities of Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
16(Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had attacked and captured Gezer, killing the Canaanite population and burning it down. He gave the city to his daughter as a wedding gift when she married Solomon.
17So Solomon rebuilt the city of Gezer.) He also built up the towns of Lower Beth-horon,

5I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
6"But if you or your descendants turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them,
7then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.
8This temple will become a heap of rubble. All who pass by will be appalled and will scoff and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
9People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord their God, who brought their ancestors out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why the Lord brought all this disaster on them.’ "
10At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built these two buildings—the temple of the Lord and the royal palace—
11King Solomon gave twenty towns in Galilee to Hiram king of Tyre, because Hiram had supplied him with all the cedar and juniper and gold he wanted.
12But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them.
13"What kind of towns are these you have given me, my brother?" he asked. And he called them the Land of Kabul, a name they have to this day.
