1 Peter 4:4-6
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
4
In
all
this, they are surprised that you do not run with
them
in the same excesses of debauchery, and they slander
you;
5
but they will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6
For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as people, they may live in the spirit according to
the will of
God.
King James Version
Chapter 4
4
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5
Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 4
4
They are surprised that you don’t join them in the same flood of wild living—and they slander you.
5
They will give an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.
6
For this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so that, although they might be judged in the flesh according to human standards, they might live in the spirit according to God’s standards.
New Living Translation
Chapter 4
4
Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.
5
But remember that they will have to face God, who stands ready to judge everyone, both the living and the dead.
6
That is why the Good News was preached to those who are now dead — so although they were destined to die like all people, they now live forever with God in the Spirit.
English Standard Version
Chapter 4
4
With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;
5
but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6
For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.
New International Version
Chapter 4
4
They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.
5
But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6
For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
New King James Version
Chapter 4
4
In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with
them
in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of
you.
5
They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
