But a messenger came to Saul, saying, 'Hurry and come, for the Philistines have launched an attack against the land!'

So Saul returned from pursuing David and went to confront the Philistines; therefore they called that place the Rock of Division.
King James Version

But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.

Then a messenger came to Saul saying, "Come quickly, because the Philistines have raided the land!"

So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to engage the Philistines. Therefore, that place was named the Rock of Separation.
New Living Translation

an urgent message reached Saul that the Philistines were raiding Israel again.

So Saul quit chasing David and returned to fight the Philistines. Ever since that time, the place where David was camped has been called the Rock of Escape.

So Saul returned from pursuing after David and went against the Philistines. Therefore that place was called the Rock of Escape.
