Chapter 28

12When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, 'Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!' 13But the king said to her, 'Do not be afraid; but what do you see?' And the woman said to Saul, 'I see a divine being coming up from the earth.' 14He said to her, 'How does he appear?' And she said, 'An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe.' Then Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and paid homage.
15And Samuel said to Saul, 'Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?' Saul replied, 'I am very distressed, for the Philistines are waging war against me, and God has abandoned me and no longer answers me, either through prophets or in dreams; therefore I have called you, so that you may let me know what I should do.' 16Samuel said, 'But why ask me, since the Lord has abandoned you and has become your enemy?

12And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. 13And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. 14And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. 15And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
16Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the Lord is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

12When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed, and then she asked Saul, "Why did you deceive me? You are Saul!"
13But the king said to her, "Don’t be afraid. What do you see?" "I see a spirit form coming up out of the earth," the woman answered.
14Then Saul asked her, "What does he look like?" "An old man is coming up," she replied. "He’s wearing a robe." Then Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he knelt low with his face to the ground and paid homage.
15"Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" Samuel asked Saul. "I’m in serious trouble," replied Saul. "The Philistines are fighting against me and God has turned away from me. He doesn’t answer me anymore, either through the prophets or in dreams. So I’ve called on you to tell me what I should do."
16Samuel answered, "Since the Lord has turned away from you and has become your enemy, why are you asking me?

12When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed, 'You’ve deceived me! You are Saul!'
13Don’t be afraid!' the king told her. 'What do you see?' 'I see a god coming up out of the earth,' she said.
14What does he look like?' Saul asked. 'He is an old man wrapped in a robe,' she replied. Saul realized it was Samuel, and he fell to the ground before him.
15Why have you disturbed me by calling me back?' Samuel asked Saul. 'Because I am in deep trouble,' Saul replied. 'The Philistines are at war with me, and God has left me and won’t reply by prophets or dreams. So I have called for you to tell me what to do.'
16But Samuel replied, 'Why ask me, since the Lord has left you and has become your enemy?

13The king said to her, "Don’t be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said, "I see a ghostly figure coming up out of the earth."
14"What does he look like?" he asked. "An old man wearing a robe is coming up," she said. Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.
15Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" "I am in great distress," Saul said. "The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do."
16Samuel said, "Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy?
