Chapter 9

3Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: 'I have anointed you king over Israel.'?’ Then open the door and flee, and do not wait.'
4So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. 5When he arrived, behold, the commanders of the army were sitting, and he said, 'I have a word for you, commander.' And Jehu said, 'For which one of us?' And he said, 'For you, commander.' 6He then got up and went into the house, and the prophet’s servant poured the oil on his head and said to him, 'This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘I have anointed you king over the people of the Lord, over Israel. 7And you shall strike the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel. 8For the entire house of Ahab shall perish, and I will eliminate from Ahab every male person both slave and free in Israel. 9I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. 10The dogs will eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel, and no one will bury her.’?' Then he opened the door and fled.
11Now Jehu went out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, 'Is everything well? Why did this crazy fellow come to you?' And he said to them, 'You know very well the man and his talk.' 12And they said, 'It is a lie; tell us now.' And he said, 'Such and such he said to me, saying, ‘This is what the Lord says: 'I have anointed you king over Israel.'?’?' 13Then they hurried, and each man took his garment and put it under him on the bare steps, and blew the trumpet, saying, 'Jehu is king!'

3Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
4So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead. 5And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain. 6And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel. 7And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel. 8For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel: 9And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah: 10And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
11Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication. 12And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I have anointed thee king over Israel. 13Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.

5When he arrived, the army commanders were sitting there, so he said, "I have a message for you, commander." Jehu asked, "For which one of us?" He answered, "For you, commander."
6So Jehu got up and went into the house. The young prophet poured the oil on his head and said, "This is what the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people, Israel. 7You are to strike down the house of your master Ahab so that I may avenge the blood shed by the hand of Jezebel—the blood of my servants the prophets and of all the servants of the Lord. 8The whole house of Ahab will perish, and I will wipe out all of Ahab’s males, both slave and free, in Israel. 9I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10The dogs will eat Jezebel in the plot of land at Jezreel—no one will bury her.’" Then the young prophet opened the door and escaped.
11When Jehu came out to his master’s servants, they asked, "Is everything all right? Why did this crazy person come to you?" Then he said to them, "You know the sort and their ranting."
12But they replied, "That’s a lie! Tell us!" So Jehu said, "He talked to me about this and that and said, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’"
13Each man quickly took his garment and put it under Jehu on the bare steps. They blew the ram’s horn and proclaimed, "Jehu is king!"

Chapter 9

3and pour the oil over his head. Say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you to be the king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run for your life!'
4So the young prophet did as he was told and went to Ramoth-gilead.
5When he arrived there, he found Jehu sitting around with the other army officers. 'I have a message for you, Commander,' he said. 'For which one of us?' Jehu asked. 'For you, Commander,' he replied.
6So Jehu left the others and went into the house. Then the young prophet poured the oil over Jehu’s head and said, 'This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the Lord’s people, Israel. 7You are to destroy the family of Ahab, your master. In this way, I will avenge the murder of my prophets and all the Lord’s servants who were killed by Jezebel. 8The entire family of Ahab must be wiped out. I will destroy every one of his male descendants, slave and free alike, anywhere in Israel. 9I will destroy the family of Ahab as I destroyed the families of Jeroboam son of Nebat and of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10Dogs will eat Ahab’s wife Jezebel at the plot of land in Jezreel, and no one will bury her.' Then the young prophet opened the door and ran.
11Jehu went back to his fellow officers, and one of them asked him, 'What did that madman want? Is everything all right?' 'You know how a man like that babbles on,' Jehu replied.
12You’re hiding something,' they said. 'Tell us.' So Jehu told them, 'He said to me, ‘This is what the Lord says: I have anointed you to be king over Israel.’'
13Then they quickly spread out their cloaks on the bare steps and blew the ram’s horn, shouting, 'Jehu is king!'

12"That’s not true!" they said. "Tell us." Jehu said, "Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ "
13They quickly took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet and shouted, "Jehu is king!"

13Then each man hastened to take his garment and put it under him on the top of the steps; and they blew trumpets, saying, “Jehu is king!”
