Chapter 18

23But whatever happens,' he said, 'I will run.' So he said to him, 'Run.' Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and passed by the Cushite.
24Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went to the roof of the gate by the wall, and raised his eyes and looked; and behold, a man was running by himself. 25So the watchman called out and told the king. And the king said, 'If he is by himself there is good news in his mouth.' And he came nearer and nearer. 26Then the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, 'Behold, another man is running by himself.' And the king said, 'This one also is bringing good news.' 27The watchman said, 'I think the running form of the first one is like the running form of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.' And the king said, 'This is a good man, and he is coming with good news.'
28Then Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, 'All is well.' And he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground. And he said, 'Blessed is the Lord your God, who has turned over the men who raised their hands against my lord the king.' 29But the king said, 'Is it well with the young man Absalom?' And Ahimaaz answered, 'When Joab sent the king’s servant, and your servant, I saw a great commotion, but I did not know what it was.' 30Then the king said, 'Turn aside and stand here.' So he turned aside and stood still.
31Then behold, the Cushite arrived, and the Cushite said, 'Let my lord the king receive good news, for the Lord has freed you this day from the hand of all those who rose up against you.' 32Then the king said to the Cushite, 'Is it well with the young man Absalom?' And the Cushite answered, 'May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you for evil, be like that young man!'

23But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.
24And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone. 25And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.
26And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings. 27And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.
28And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the Lord thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
29And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was. 30And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.
31And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the Lord hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee. 32And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.

Chapter 18

23"No matter what, I want to run!" "Then run!" Joab said to him. So Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the Cushite.
24David was sitting between the city gates when the watchman went up to the roof of the city gate and over to the wall. The watchman looked out and saw a man running alone.
25He called out and told the king. The king said, "If he’s alone, he bears good news." As the first runner came closer,
26the watchman saw another man running. He called out to the gatekeeper, "Look! Another man is running alone!" "This one is also bringing good news," said the king.
27The watchman said, "The way the first man runs looks to me like the way Ahimaaz son of Zadok runs." "This is a good man; he comes with good news," the king commented.
28Ahimaaz called out to the king, "All is well," and paid homage to the king with his face to the ground. He continued, "Blessed be the Lord your God! He delivered up the men who rebelled against my lord the king."
29The king asked, "Is the young man Absalom all right?" Ahimaaz replied, "When Joab sent the king’s servant and your servant, I saw a big disturbance, but I don’t know what it was."
30The king said, "Move aside and stand here." So he stood to one side.
31Just then the Cushite came and said, "May my lord the king hear the good news: The Lord has vindicated you today by freeing you from all who rise against you!"
32The king asked the Cushite, "Is the young man Absalom all right?" The Cushite replied, "I wish that the enemies of my lord the king, along with all who rise up against you with evil intent, would become like that young man."

Chapter 18

23Yes, but let me go anyway,' he begged. Joab finally said, 'All right, go ahead.' So Ahimaaz took the less demanding route by way of the plain and ran to Mahanaim ahead of the Ethiopian.
24While David was sitting between the inner and outer gates of the town, the watchman climbed to the roof of the gateway by the wall. As he looked, he saw a lone man running toward them.
25He shouted the news down to David, and the king replied, 'If he is alone, he has news.' As the messenger came closer,
26the watchman saw another man running toward them. He shouted down, 'Here comes another one!' The king replied, 'He also will have news.'
27The first man runs like Ahimaaz son of Zadok,' the watchman said. 'He is a good man and comes with good news,' the king replied.
28Then Ahimaaz cried out to the king, 'Everything is all right!' He bowed before the king with his face to the ground and said, 'Praise to the Lord your God, who has handed over the rebels who dared to stand against my lord the king.'
29What about young Absalom?' the king demanded. 'Is he all right?' Ahimaaz replied, 'When Joab told me to come, there was a lot of commotion. But I didn’t know what was happening.'
30Wait here,' the king told him. So Ahimaaz stepped aside.
31Then the man from Ethiopia arrived and said, 'I have good news for my lord the king. Today the Lord has rescued you from all those who rebelled against you.'
32What about young Absalom?' the king demanded. 'Is he all right?' And the Ethiopian replied, 'May all of your enemies, my lord the king, both now and in the future, share the fate of that young man!'

28Then Ahimaaz called out to the king, "All is well!" He bowed down before the king with his face to the ground and said, "Praise be to the Lord your God! He has delivered up those who lifted their hands against my lord the king."
29The king asked, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" Ahimaaz answered, "I saw great confusion just as Joab was about to send the king’s servant and me, your servant, but I don’t know what it was."
30The king said, "Stand aside and wait here." So he stepped aside and stood there.
31Then the Cushite arrived and said, "My lord the king, hear the good news! The Lord has vindicated you today by delivering you from the hand of all who rose up against you."
32The king asked the Cushite, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" The Cushite replied, "May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up to harm you be like that young man."
