2 Thessalonians 3:2-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
2and that we will be rescued from troublesome and evil people; for not all have the faith. 3But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 4We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing, and will do, what we command. 5May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the perseverance of Christ.
6Now we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother or sister who leads a disorderly life and not one in accordance with the tradition which you received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined way among you,
8nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you;
9not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a role model for you, so that you would follow our example.
10For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
11For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.
12Now we command and exhort such persons in the Lord Jesus Christ to work peacefully and eat their own bread.
13But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary of doing good.
King James Version
Chapter 3
2And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. 3But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 4And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 5And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
8Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
9Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
12Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

Chapter 3
2and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not all have faith. 3But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen and guard you from the evil one. 4We have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. 5May the Lord direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s endurance.
6Now we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from every brother or sister who is idle and does not live according to the tradition received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you should imitate us: We were not idle among you;
8we did not eat anyone’s food free of charge; instead, we labored and toiled, working night and day, so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
9It is not that we don’t have the right to support, but we did it to make ourselves an example to you so that you would imitate us.
10In fact, when we were with you, this is what we commanded you: "If anyone isn’t willing to work, he should not eat."
11For we hear that there are some among you who are idle. They are not busy but busybodies.
12Now we command and exhort such people by the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and provide for themselves.
13But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing good.
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
2Pray, too, that we will be rescued from wicked and evil people, for not everyone is a believer. 3But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. 4And we are confident in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we commanded you. 5May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
6And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us.
7For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you.
8We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you.
9We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow.
10Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: 'Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.'
11Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business.
12We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living.
13As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.

Chapter 3
2and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. 3But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. 4And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things that we command. 5May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.
6Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you,
8nor did we eat anyone 's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you.
9It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate.
10For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
11For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.
12Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Chapter 3
2And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. 3But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. 4We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. 5May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
6In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,
8nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
9We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.
10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."
11We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.
12Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.
13And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.
New King James Version
3But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.
4And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you.
6But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you;
8nor did we eat anyone’s bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,
9not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.
10For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.
11For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.
12Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.
