7who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 9But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, stared at him, 10and said, 'You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked the straight ways of the Lord? 11Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time.' And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. 12Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.
13Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia; but John left them and returned to Jerusalem.
14But going on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.
15After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue officials sent word to them, saying, 'Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it.'
16Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, 'Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:
17The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He led them out from it.
18For a period of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.
19When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land as an inheritance— all of which took about 450 years.
20After these things He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.
21Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
22After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’
23From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,
24after John had proclaimed, before His coming, a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25And while John was completing his course, he kept saying, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’
26Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.
27For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the declarations of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him.
28And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.
29When they had carried out everything that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb.
30But God raised Him from the dead;
31and for many days He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now His witnesses to the people.
32And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers,
33that God has fulfilled this promise to those of us who are the descendants by raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE FATHERED YOU.’
34As for the fact that He raised Him from the dead, never again to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY and faithful mercies of DAVID.’
35Therefore, He also says in another Psalm: ‘YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.’
36For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, and was buried among his fathers and underwent decay;
37but He whom God raised did not undergo decay.
38Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,
39and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.
40Therefore, see that the thing spoken of in the Prophets does not come upon you:
42As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people repeatedly begged to have these things spoken to them the next Sabbath.
43Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.
44The next Sabbath nearly all the city assembled to hear the word of the Lord.
45But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.
46Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, 'It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you repudiate it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.

7Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. 8But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. 9Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, 10And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? 11And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. 12Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
13Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
14But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
15And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
16Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
23Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
24When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
26Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
27For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
28And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.
30But God raised him from the dead:
31And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
32And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
36For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
37But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
38Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
41Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
42And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
47For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

14They continued their journey from Perga and reached Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.
15After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, you can speak."
16Paul stood up and motioned with his hand and said: "Fellow Israelites, and you who fear God, listen!
17The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors, made the people prosper during their stay in the land of Egypt, and led them out of it with a mighty arm.
18And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness;
19and after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.
20This all took about 450 years. After this, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.
21Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
22After removing him, he raised up David as their king and testified about him:’ I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my will.’
23"From this man’s descendants, as he promised, God brought to Israel the Savior, Jesus.
24Before his coming to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25Now as John was completing his mission, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But one is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.’
26"Brothers and sisters, children of Abraham’s race, and those among you who fear God, it is to us that the word of this salvation has been sent.
27Since the residents of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize him or the sayings of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, they have fulfilled their words by condemning him.
28Though they found no grounds for the death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him killed.
29When they had carried out all that had been written about him, they took him down from the tree and put him in a tomb.
30But God raised him from the dead,
31and he appeared for many days to those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people.
32And we ourselves proclaim to you the good news of the promise that was made to our ancestors.
34As to his raising him from the dead, never to return to decay, he has spoken in this way, I will give you the holy and sure promises of David.
35Therefore he also says in another passage, You will not let your Holy One see decay.
36For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed,
37but the one God raised up did not decay.
38Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you.
39Everyone who believes is justified through him from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses.
40So beware that what is said in the prophets does not happen to you:
42As they were leaving, the people urged them to speak about these matters the following Sabbath.
43After the synagogue had been dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking with them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.

Chapter 13
7He had attached himself to the governor, Sergius Paulus, who was an intelligent man. The governor invited Barnabas and Saul to visit him, for he wanted to hear the word of God. 8But Elymas, the sorcerer (as his name means in Greek), interfered and urged the governor to pay no attention to what Barnabas and Saul said. He was trying to keep the governor from believing.
9Saul, also known as Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he looked the sorcerer in the eye.
10Then he said, 'You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord?
11Watch now, for the Lord has laid his hand of punishment upon you, and you will be struck blind. You will not see the sunlight for some time.' Instantly mist and darkness came over the man’s eyes, and he began groping around begging for someone to take his hand and lead him.
14But Paul and Barnabas traveled inland to Antioch of Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the synagogue for the services.
15After the usual readings from the books of Moses and the prophets, those in charge of the service sent them this message: 'Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, come and give it.'
17The God of this nation of Israel chose our ancestors and made them multiply and grow strong during their stay in Egypt. Then with a powerful arm he led them out of their slavery.
18He put up with them through forty years of wandering in the wilderness.
19Then he destroyed seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to Israel as an inheritance.
20All this took about 450 years. 'After that, God gave them judges to rule until the time of Samuel the prophet.
21Then the people begged for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years.
22But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’
23And it is one of King David’s descendants, Jesus, who is God’s promised Savior of Israel!
24Before he came, John the Baptist preached that all the people of Israel needed to repent of their sins and turn to God and be baptized.
25As John was finishing his ministry he asked, ‘Do you think I am the Messiah? No, I am not! But he is coming soon — and I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the sandals on his feet.’
26Brothers — you sons of Abraham, and also you God-fearing Gentiles — this message of salvation has been sent to us!
27The people in Jerusalem and their leaders did not recognize Jesus as the one the prophets had spoken about. Instead, they condemned him, and in doing this they fulfilled the prophets’ words that are read every Sabbath.
28They found no legal reason to execute him, but they asked Pilate to have him killed anyway.
29When they had done all that the prophecies said about him, they took him down from the cross and placed him in a tomb.
30But God raised him from the dead!
31And over a period of many days he appeared to those who had gone with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to the people of Israel.
34For God had promised to raise him from the dead, not leaving him to rot in the grave. He said, ‘I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.’
35Another psalm explains it more fully: ‘You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.’
36This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.
37No, it was a reference to someone else — someone whom God raised and whose body did not decay.
38Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.
39Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight — something the law of Moses could never do.
40Be careful! Don’t let the prophets’ words apply to you. For they said,
42As Paul and Barnabas left the synagogue that day, the people begged them to speak about these things again the next week.
43Many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, and the two men urged them to continue to rely on the grace of God.

41 "‘Look, you scoffers, be astounded and perish; for I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will not believe, even if one tells it to you.’"

46And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.
47For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, "‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’"

22And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’
23From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior—Jesus—
24after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25And as John was finishing his course, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.’
26“Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.
27For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.
28And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death.
29Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.
30But God raised Him from the dead.
31He was seen for many days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.
32And we declare to you glad tidings— that promise which was made to the fathers.
36“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;
37but He whom God raised up saw no corruption.
38Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins;
39and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets come upon you:
42So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
43Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.
45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.
46Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.
