Acts 2:2-19
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
2And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, distributing themselves, and a tongue rested on each one of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with different tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.
5Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
6And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together and they were bewildered, because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.
7They were amazed and astonished, saying, 'Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
8And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?
9Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty deeds of God.'
12And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, 'What does this mean?'
13But others were jeering and saying, 'They are full of sweet wine!'
14But Peter, taking his stand with the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: 'Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, know this, and pay attention to my words.
15For these people are not drunk, as you assume, since it is only the third hour of the day;
16but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:
17‘AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,’ God says, ‘THAT I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN WILL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN WILL HAVE DREAMS;
18AND EVEN ON MY MALE AND FEMALE SERVANTS I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT IN THOSE DAYS, And they will prophesy.
19AND I WILL DISPLAY WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE.

Chapter 2
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

Chapter 2
2Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying. 3They saw tongues like flames of fire that separated and rested on each one of them. 4Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.
5Now there were Jews staying in Jerusalem, devout people from every nation under heaven.
6When this sound occurred, a crowd came together and was confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
7They were astounded and amazed, saying, "Look, aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?
8How is it that each of us can hear them in our own native language?
9Parthians, Medes, Elamites; those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts),
11Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the magnificent acts of God in our own tongues."
12They were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"
13But some sneered and said, "They’re drunk on new wine."
14Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: "Fellow Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let me explain this to you and pay attention to my words.
15For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it’s only nine in the morning.
16On the contrary, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17 And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
18 I will even pour out my Spirit on my servants in those days, both men and women and they will prophesy.
19 I will display wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below: blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.

Chapter 2
2Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
5At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem.
6When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.
7They were completely amazed. 'How can this be?' they exclaimed. 'These people are all from Galilee,
8and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages!
9Here we are — Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia,
10Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome
11(both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!'
12They stood there amazed and perplexed. 'What can this mean?' they asked each other.
14Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, 'Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this.
15These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that.
16No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel:
17‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
18In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants — men and women alike — and they will prophesy.
19And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below — blood and fire and clouds of smoke.
