Acts 4:9-26

Chapter 4
9if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, 10let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead— by this name this man stands here before you in good health. 11He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE. 12And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.'
13Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.
14And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply.
15But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another,
16saying, 'What are we to do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
17But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let’s warn them not to speak any longer to any person in this name.'
18And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
19But Peter and John answered and said to them, 'Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, make your own judgment;
20for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.'
21When they had threatened them further, they let them go (finding no basis on which to punish them) on account of the people, because they were all glorifying God for what had happened;
22for the man on whom this miracle of healing had been performed was more than forty years old.
23When they had been released, they went to their own companions and reported everything that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
24And when they heard this, they raised their voices to God with one mind and said, 'Lord, it is You who MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND EVERYTHING THAT IS IN THEM,

Chapter 4
9If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; 10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
13Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
14And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
16Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
17But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.
23And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
24And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
25Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

Chapter 4
9If we are being examined today about a good deed done to a disabled man, by what means he was healed, 10let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing here before you healthy.
13When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus.
14And since they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in opposition.
15After they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, they conferred among themselves,
16saying, "What should we do with these men? For an obvious sign has been done through them, clear to everyone living in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
17But so that this does not spread any further among the people, let’s threaten them against speaking to anyone in this name again."
18So they called for them and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
19Peter and John answered them, "Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;
20for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard."
21After threatening them further, they released them. They found no way to punish them because the people were all giving glory to God over what had been done.
22For this sign of healing had been performed on a man over forty years old.
23After they were released, they went to their own people and reported everything the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
24When they heard this, they raised their voices together to God and said, "Master, you are the one who made the heaven, the earth, and the sea, and everything in them.

Chapter 4
9are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.
13The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.
14But since they could see the man who had been healed standing right there among them, there was nothing the council could say.
15So they ordered Peter and John out of the council chamber and conferred among themselves.
16What should we do with these men?' they asked each other. 'We can’t deny that they have performed a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it.
17But to keep them from spreading their propaganda any further, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.'
18So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
19But Peter and John replied, 'Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him?
20We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.'
21The council then threatened them further, but they finally let them go because they didn’t know how to punish them without starting a riot. For everyone was praising God
22for this miraculous sign — the healing of a man who had been lame for more than forty years.
23As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said.
24When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: 'O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them —

9If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.
13When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

19But Peter and John replied, "Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!
20As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard."
21After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened.
