Chapter 5
22But the officers who came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and reported, 23saying, 'We found the prison locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.' 24Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this. 25But someone came and reported to them, 'The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple area and teaching the people!' 26Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).
27When they had brought them, they had them stand before the Council. The high priest interrogated them,
28saying, 'We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.'
29But Peter and the apostles answered, 'We must obey God rather than men.

22But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told, 23Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within. 24Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. 25Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people. 26Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

22But when the servants got there, they did not find them in the jail, so they returned and reported, 23"We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside." 24As the captain of the temple police and the chief priests heard these things, they were baffled about them, wondering what would come of this.
25Someone came and reported to them, "Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple and teaching the people."
26Then the commander went with the servants and brought them in without force, because they were afraid the people might stone them.
27After they brought them in, they had them stand before the Sanhedrin, and the high priest asked,
28"Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name? Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood."

22But when the Temple guards went to the jail, the men were gone. So they returned to the council and reported, 23The jail was securely locked, with the guards standing outside, but when we opened the gates, no one was there!'
24When the captain of the Temple guard and the leading priests heard this, they were perplexed, wondering where it would all end.
25Then someone arrived with startling news: 'The men you put in jail are standing in the Temple, teaching the people!'
26The captain went with his Temple guards and arrested the apostles, but without violence, for they were afraid the people would stone them.
27Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest confronted them.
28We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!' he said. 'Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!'
