Acts 5:27-34
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
27When they had brought them, they had them stand before the Council. The high priest interrogated them, 28saying, 'We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.' 29But Peter and the apostles answered, 'We must obey God rather than men. 30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you put to death by hanging Him on a cross. 31He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.'King James Version
Chapter 5
27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. 29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. 30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
27After they brought them in, they had them stand before the Sanhedrin, and the high priest asked, 28"Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name? Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood."
29Peter and the apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than people.
30The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had murdered by hanging him on a tree.
31God exalted this man to his right hand as ruler and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
27Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest confronted them. 28We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!' he said. 'Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!'
29But Peter and the apostles replied, 'We must obey God rather than any human authority.
30The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging him on a cross.
31Then God put him in the place of honor at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven.
32We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.'
