Acts 8:24-38
New American Standard Bible
26But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, 'Get ready and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza.' ( This is a desert road.)
27So he got ready and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship,
28and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading Isaiah the prophet.
29Then the Spirit said to Philip, 'Go up and join this chariot.'
30Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, 'Do you understand what you are reading?'
31And he said, 'Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?' And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: 'HE WAS LED LIKE A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND LIKE A LAMB THAT IS SILENT BEFORE ITS SHEARER, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.
33IN HUMILIATION HIS JUSTICE WAS TAKEN AWAY; WHO WILL DESCRIBE HIS GENERATION? FOR HIS LIFE IS TAKEN AWAY FROM THE EARTH.'
34The eunuch answered Philip and said, 'Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself, or of someone else?'
35Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.
36As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, 'Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?'
37
38And he ordered that the chariot stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.
King James Version
26And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
27And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
28Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
29Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
31And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Chapter 8
24"Pray to the Lord for me," Simon replied, "so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
26An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: "Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." (This is the desert road. )
27So he got up and went. There was an Ethiopian man, a eunuch and high official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of her entire treasury. He had come to worship in Jerusalem
28and was sitting in his chariot on his way home, reading the prophet Isaiah aloud.
32Now the Scripture passage he was reading was this: He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before its shearer, so he does not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who will describe his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.
New Living Translation
26As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, 'Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.'
27So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship,
28and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
32The passage of Scripture he had been reading was this: 'He was led like a sheep to the slaughter. And as a lamb is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.
33He was humiliated and received no justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.'
English Standard Version
26Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." This is a desert place.
27And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship
28and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
29And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go over and join this chariot."
30So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
31And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth.
33In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth."
34And the eunuch said to Philip, "About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?"
35Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.
36And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"
37
38And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

Chapter 8
24Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
26Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."
27So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means "queen of the Ethiopians"). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,
28and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet.
29The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."
32This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
33In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth."
New King James Version
26Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert.

29Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”
32The place in the Scripture which he read was this: “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
33In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.”
