Amos 8:9-14
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
9And it will come about on that day,' declares the Lord God, 'That I will make the sun go down at noon, And make the earth dark in broad daylight. 10Then I will turn your festivals into mourning, And all your songs into songs of mourning; And I will put sackcloth around everyone’s waist, And baldness on every head. And I will make it like a time of mourning for an only son, And the end of it will be like a bitter day. 11'Behold, days are coming,' declares the Lord God, 'When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the Lord. 12People will stagger from sea to sea And from the north even to the east; They will roam about to seek the word of the Lord, But they will not find it. 13On that day the beautiful virgins And the young men will faint from thirst. 14 As for those who swear by the guilt of Samaria, And say, ‘As your god lives, Dan,’ And, ‘As the way of Beersheba lives,’ They will fall and not rise again.'King James Version
Christian Standard Bible
11Look, the days are coming— this is the declaration of the Lord God — when I will send a famine through the land: not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.
12People will stagger from sea to sea and roam from north to east seeking the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
13In that day the beautiful young women, the young men also, will faint from thirst.
14Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, "As your god lives, Dan," or, "As the way of Beer-sheba lives" — they will fall, never to rise again.
New Living Translation
Chapter 8
9'In that day,' says the Sovereign Lord, 'I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth while it is still day. 10I will turn your celebrations into times of mourning and your singing into weeping. You will wear funeral clothes and shave your heads to show your sorrow — as if your only son had died. How very bitter that day will be!
11'The time is surely coming,' says the Sovereign Lord, 'when I will send a famine on the land — not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord.
12People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
13Beautiful girls and strong young men will grow faint in that day, thirsting for the Lord’s word.
14And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria — who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba — they will all fall down, never to rise again.'

Chapter 8
9"And on that day," declares the Lord God, "I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. 10 I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist and baldness on every head; I will make it like the mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day. 11"Behold, the days are coming," declares the Lord God, "when I will send a famine on the land — not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. 12 They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it. 13 "In that day the lovely virgins and the young men shall faint for thirst. 14Those who swear by the Guilt of Samaria, and say, ‘As your god lives, O Dan,’ and, ‘As the Way of Beersheba lives,’ they shall fall, and never rise again."New International Version
10I will turn your religious festivals into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.
11"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign Lord, "when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.
