Deuteronomy 29:3-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 29
3the great trials which your eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders. 4Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. 5And I have led you in the wilderness for forty years; your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot. 6You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or other strong drink, in order that you might know that I am the Lord your God. 7When you reached this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us for battle, but we defeated them; 8and we took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites. 9So you will keep the words of this covenant and do them, in order that you may be successful in everything that you do.
10You stand today, all of you, before the Lord your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders and your officers, that is, all the men of Israel,
11your little ones, your wives, and the stranger who is within your camps, from the one who gathers your firewood to the one who draws your water,
12so that you may enter into the covenant with the Lord your God, and into His oath which the Lord your God is making with you today,
13in order that He may establish you today as His people, and that He may be your God, just as He spoke to you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
14Now it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant and this oath,
15but both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God, and with those who are not with us here today
16(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we passed through the midst of the nations through which you passed;
17moreover, you have seen their abominations and their idols made of wood and stone, silver and gold, which they had with them);
18so that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.
King James Version
Chapter 29
3The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles: 4Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. 5And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot. 6Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the Lord your God. 7And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them: 8And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh. 9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do. 10Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel, 11Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water: 12That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the Lord thy God, and into his oath, which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day: 13That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; 15But with him that standeth here with us this day before the Lord our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day: 16(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by; 17And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:) 18Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 29
3You saw with your own eyes the great trials and those great signs and wonders. 4Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear. 5I led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes and the sandals on your feet did not wear out; 6you did not eat food or drink wine or beer—so that you might know that I am the Lord your God. 7When you reached this place, King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan came out against us in battle, but we defeated them. 8We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh. 9Therefore, observe the words of this covenant and follow them, so that you will succeed in everything you do.
10"All of you are standing today before the Lord your God—your leaders, tribes, elders, officials, all the men of Israel,
11your dependents, your wives, and the resident aliens in your camps who cut your wood and draw your water—
12so that you may enter into the covenant of the Lord your God, which he is making with you today, so that you may enter into his oath
13and so that he may establish you today as his people and he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
14I am making this covenant and this oath not only with you,
15but also with those who are standing here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God and with those who are not here today.
16"Indeed, you know how we lived in the land of Egypt and passed through the nations where you traveled.
17You saw their abhorrent images and idols made of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them.
18Be sure there is no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations. Be sure there is no root among you bearing poisonous and bitter fruit.

Chapter 29
3all the great tests of strength, the miraculous signs, and the amazing wonders. 4But to this day the Lord has not given you minds that understand, nor eyes that see, nor ears that hear! 5For forty years I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out. 6You ate no bread and drank no wine or other alcoholic drink, but he provided for you so you would know that he is the Lord your God.
7When we came here, King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan came out to fight against us, but we defeated them.
8We took their land and gave it to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and to the half-tribe of Manasseh as their grant of land.
9Therefore, obey the terms of this covenant so that you will prosper in everything you do.
10All of you — tribal leaders, elders, officers, all the men of Israel — are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God.
11Your little ones and your wives are with you, as well as the foreigners living among you who chop your wood and carry your water.
12You are standing here today to enter into the covenant of the Lord your God. The Lord is making this covenant, including the curses.
13By entering into the covenant today, he will establish you as his people and confirm that he is your God, just as he promised you and as he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
14But you are not the only ones with whom I am making this covenant with its curses.
15I am making this covenant both with you who stand here today in the presence of the Lord our God, and also with the future generations who are not standing here today.
16You remember how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we traveled through the lands of enemy nations as we left.
17You have seen their detestable practices and their idols made of wood, stone, silver, and gold.
18I am making this covenant with you so that no one among you — no man, woman, clan, or tribe — will turn away from the Lord our God to worship these gods of other nations, and so that no root among you bears bitter and poisonous fruit.

Chapter 29
3With your own eyes you saw those great trials, those signs and great wonders. 4But to this day the Lord has not given you a mind that understands or eyes that see or ears that hear. 5Yet the Lord says, "During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet. 6You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the Lord your God."
7When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to fight against us, but we defeated them.
8We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
9Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do.
10All of you are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God—your leaders and chief men, your elders and officials, and all the other men of Israel,
11together with your children and your wives, and the foreigners living in your camps who chop your wood and carry your water.
12You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God, a covenant the Lord is making with you this day and sealing with an oath,
13to confirm you this day as his people, that he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
14I am making this covenant, with its oath, not only with you
15who are standing here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God but also with those who are not here today.
16You yourselves know how we lived in Egypt and how we passed through the countries on the way here.
17You saw among them their detestable images and idols of wood and stone, of silver and gold.
18Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.
