Deuteronomy 8:2-12
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
2
And you shall remember all the way which the
Lord
your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, in order to humble you, putting you to the test, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.
3
And He humbled you and let you go hungry, and fed you with the manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, in order to make you understand that man shall not live on bread alone, but man shall live on everything that comes out of the mouth of the
Lord
.
4
Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.
5
So you are to know in your heart that the
Lord
your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.
6
Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the
Lord
your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.
7
For the
Lord
your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of streams of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in valleys and hills;
8
a land of wheat and barley, of vines, fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey;
9
a land where you will eat food without shortage, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
10
When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the
Lord
your God for the good land which He has given you.
11
Be careful that you do not forget the
Lord
your God by failing to keep His commandments, His ordinances, and His statutes which I am commanding you today;
12
otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, and you build good houses and live
in them,
King James Version
Chapter 8
2
And thou shalt remember all the way which the
Lord
thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
3
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the
Lord
doth man live.
4
Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
5
Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the
Lord
thy God chasteneth thee.
6
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the
Lord
thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
7
For the
Lord
thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;
8
A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;
9
A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
10
When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the
Lord
thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
11
Beware that thou forget not the
Lord
thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
12
Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

Chapter 8
2
Remember that the
Lord
your God led you on the entire journey these forty years in the wilderness, so that he might humble you and test you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
3
He humbled you by letting you go hungry; then he gave you manna to eat, which you and your fathers had not known, so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the
Lord
.
4
Your clothing did not wear out, and your feet did not swell these forty years.
5
Keep in mind that the
Lord
your God has been disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.
6
So keep the commands of the
Lord
your God by walking in his ways and fearing him.
7
For the
Lord
your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams, springs, and deep water sources, flowing in both valleys and hills;
8
a land of wheat, barley, vines, figs, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey;
9
a land where you will eat food without shortage, where you will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and from whose hills you will mine copper.
10
When you eat and are full, you will bless the
Lord
your God for the good land he has given you.
11
"Be careful that you don’t forget the
Lord
your God by failing to keep his commands, ordinances, and statutes that I am giving you today.
12
When you eat and are full, and build beautiful houses to live in,
New Living Translation
Chapter 8
2
Remember how the
Lord
your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.
3
Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the
Lord
.
4
For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell.
5
Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the
Lord
your God disciplines you for your own good.
6
So obey the commands of the
Lord
your God by walking in his ways and fearing him.
7
For the
Lord
your God is bringing you into a good land of flowing streams and pools of water, with fountains and springs that gush out in the valleys and hills.
8
It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey.
9
It is a land where food is plentiful and nothing is lacking. It is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills.
10
When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the
Lord
your God for the good land he has given you.
11
But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the
Lord
your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.
12
For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in,
