Ephesians 5:2-18
New American Standard Bible
3But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints;
4and there must be no filthiness or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
5For this you know with certainty, that no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, which amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7Therefore do not become partners with them;
8for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light
9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
10as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
11Do not participate in the useless deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;
12for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
13But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.
King James Version
Chapter 5
2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Chapter 5
2and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. 3But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints. 4Obscene and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks. 5For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient because of these things.
7Therefore, do not become their partners.
8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light —
9for the fruit of the light consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth —
10testing what is pleasing to the Lord.
11Don’t participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them.
12For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret.
13Everything exposed by the light is made visible,
New Living Translation
3Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.
4Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes — these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.
5You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
6Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.
7Don’t participate in the things these people do.
8For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!
9For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
10Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.
11Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.
12It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.
13But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them,
15So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.
16Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.
17Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
18Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
English Standard Version
3But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
4Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.
5For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7Therefore do not become partners with them;
8for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
9(for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),
10and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
11Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.
12For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
13But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,
14for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
New International Version
3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
7Therefore do not be partners with them.
8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
10and find out what pleases the Lord.
11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
New King James Version
3But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7Therefore do not be partakers with them.
