Ezekiel 36:7-35
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 36
7Therefore the Lord God says this: ‘I have sworn that the nations that are around you will certainly endure their insults themselves. 8But as for you, mountains of Israel, you will grow your branches and bear fruit for My people Israel; for they are about to come. 9For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you will be cultivated and sown. 10And I will multiply people on you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities will be inhabited and the ruins will be rebuilt. 11I will multiply on you people and animals, and they will increase and be fruitful; and I will populate you as you were previously, and treat you better than at the beginning. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 12Yes, I will have people—My people Israel—walk on you and possess you, so that you will become their inheritance and never again bereave them of children.’
13The Lord God says this: ‘Since they say to you, 'You are a devourer of people and have bereaved your nation of children,'
14for that reason you will no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children,’ declares the Lord God.
15I will not let you hear insults from the nations anymore, nor will you suffer disgrace from the peoples any longer, nor will you make your nation stumble any longer,' declares the Lord God.’?'
16Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
17Son of man, when the house of Israel was living on their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds; their way before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity.
18Therefore I poured out My wrath on them for the blood which they had shed on the land, because they had defiled it with their idols.
19I also scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the lands. According to their ways and their deeds I judged them.
20When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, yet they have left His land.’
21But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations where they went.
22Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord God says: 'It is not for your sake, house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went.
23And I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord,' declares the Lord God, 'when I show Myself holy among you in their sight.
24For I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the lands; and I will bring you into your own land.
25Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
26Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27And I will put My Spirit within you and bring it about that you walk in My statutes, and are careful and follow My ordinances.
28And you will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God.
29Moreover, I will save you from all your uncleanness; and I will call for the grain and multiply it, and I will not bring a famine on you.
30Instead, I will multiply the fruit of the tree and the produce of the field, so that you will not receive again the disgrace of famine among the nations.
31Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight for your wrongdoings and your abominations.
32I am not doing this for your sake,' declares the Lord God; 'let that be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated for your ways, house of Israel!'
33‘This is what the Lord God says: 'On the day that I cleanse you from all your wrongdoings, I will populate the cities, and the places of ruins will be rebuilt.
34The desolated land will be cultivated instead of being a desolation in the sight of everyone who passes by.
35And they will say, ‘This desolated land has become like the Garden of Eden; and the waste, desolated and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.’
King James Version
8But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come.
9For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown:
10And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded:
11And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
12Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of men.
13Thus saith the Lord God; Because they say unto you, Thou land devourest up men, and hast bereaved thy nations;
14Therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith the Lord God.
15Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord God.
16Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
17Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.
18Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it:
19And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.
20And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the Lord, and are gone forth out of his land.
21But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went.
22Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.
23And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord God, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.
24For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
25Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
28And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
29I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.
30And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.
31Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.
32Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord God, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.
33Thus saith the Lord God; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.
34And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by.
35And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited.

8"‘You, mountains of Israel, will produce your branches and bear your fruit for my people Israel, since their arrival is near.
9Look! I am on your side; I will turn toward you, and you will be tilled and sown.
10I will fill you with people, with the whole house of Israel in its entirety. The cities will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
11I will fill you with people and animals, and they will increase and be fruitful. I will make you inhabited as you once were and make you better off than you were before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
12I will cause people, my people Israel, to walk on you; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance. You will no longer deprive them of their children.
13"‘This is what the Lord God says: Because some are saying to you, "You devour people and deprive your nation of children,"
14therefore, you will no longer devour people and deprive your nation of children. This is the declaration of the Lord God.
15I will no longer allow the insults of the nations to be heard against you, and you will not have to endure the reproach of the peoples anymore; you will no longer cause your nation to stumble. This is the declaration of the Lord God.’"
16The word of the Lord came to me:
17"Son of man, while the house of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it with their conduct and actions. Their behavior before me was like menstrual impurity.
18So I poured out my wrath on them because of the blood they had shed on the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols.
19I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered among the countries. I judged them according to their conduct and actions.
20When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned my holy name, because it was said about them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, yet they had to leave his land in exile.’
21Then I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they went.
22"Therefore, say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord God says: It is not for your sake that I will act, house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you profaned among the nations where you went.
23I will honor the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations—the name you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the Lord —this is the declaration of the Lord God —when I demonstrate my holiness through you in their sight.
24"‘For I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.
25I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols.
26I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
27I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances.
28You will live in the land that I gave your fathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God.
29I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will summon the grain and make it plentiful, and I will not bring famine on you.
30I will also make the fruit of the trees and the produce of the field plentiful, so that you will no longer experience reproach among the nations on account of famine.
31"‘You will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and detestable practices.
32It is not for your sake that I will act —this is the declaration of the Lord God —let this be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated because of your ways, house of Israel!
33"‘This is what the Lord God says: On the day I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the ruins will be rebuilt.
34The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of everyone who passes by.
35They will say, "This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The cities that were once ruined, desolate, and demolished are now fortified and inhabited."
New Living Translation
8But the mountains of Israel will produce heavy crops of fruit for my people — for they will be coming home again soon!
9See, I care about you, and I will pay attention to you. Your ground will be plowed and your crops planted.
10I will greatly increase the population of Israel, and the ruined cities will be rebuilt and filled with people.
11I will increase not only the people, but also your animals. O mountains of Israel, I will bring people to live on you once again. I will make you even more prosperous than you were before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
12I will cause my people to walk on you once again, and you will be their territory. You will never again rob them of their children.
13This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The other nations taunt you, saying, ‘Israel is a land that devours its own people and robs them of their children!’
14But you will never again devour your people or rob them of their children, says the Sovereign Lord.
15I will not let you hear those other nations insult you, and you will no longer be mocked by them. You will not be a land that causes its nation to fall, says the Sovereign Lord.'
16Then this further message came to me from the Lord:
17Son of man, when the people of Israel were living in their own land, they defiled it by the evil way they lived. To me their conduct was as unclean as a woman’s menstrual cloth.
18They polluted the land with murder and the worship of idols, so I poured out my fury on them.
19I scattered them to many lands to punish them for the evil way they had lived.
20But when they were scattered among the nations, they brought shame on my holy name. For the nations said, ‘These are the people of the Lord, but he couldn’t keep them safe in his own land!’
21Then I was concerned for my holy name, on which my people brought shame among the nations.
22Therefore, give the people of Israel this message from the Sovereign Lord: I am bringing you back, but not because you deserve it. I am doing it to protect my holy name, on which you brought shame while you were scattered among the nations.
23I will show how holy my great name is — the name on which you brought shame among the nations. And when I reveal my holiness through you before their very eyes, says the Sovereign Lord, then the nations will know that I am the Lord.
24For I will gather you up from all the nations and bring you home again to your land.
25Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols.
26And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.
27And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
28And you will live in Israel, the land I gave your ancestors long ago. You will be my people, and I will be your God.
29I will cleanse you of your filthy behavior. I will give you good crops of grain, and I will send no more famines on the land.
30I will give you great harvests from your fruit trees and fields, and never again will the surrounding nations be able to scoff at your land for its famines.
31Then you will remember your past sins and despise yourselves for all the detestable things you did.
32But remember, says the Sovereign Lord, I am not doing this because you deserve it. O my people of Israel, you should be utterly ashamed of all you have done!
33This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When I cleanse you from your sins, I will repopulate your cities, and the ruins will be rebuilt.
34The fields that used to lie empty and desolate in plain view of everyone will again be farmed.
35And when I bring you back, people will say, ‘This former wasteland is now like the Garden of Eden! The abandoned and ruined cities now have strong walls and are filled with people!’

8"But you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to my people Israel, for they will soon come home.
9For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.
10And I will multiply people on you, the whole house of Israel, all of it. The cities shall be inhabited and the waste places rebuilt.
11And I will multiply on you man and beast, and they shall multiply and be fruitful. And I will cause you to be inhabited as in your former times, and will do more good to you than ever before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
12I will let people walk on you, even my people Israel. And they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no longer bereave them of children.
13Thus says the Lord God: Because they say to you, ‘You devour people, and you bereave your nation of children,’
14therefore you shall no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children, declares the Lord God.
15And I will not let you hear anymore the reproach of the nations, and you shall no longer bear the disgrace of the peoples and no longer cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord God."
16The word of the Lord came to me:
17"Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their ways before me were like the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual impurity.
18So I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols with which they had defiled it.
19I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. In accordance with their ways and their deeds I judged them.
20But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.’
21But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came.
22"Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came.
23And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Lord God, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.
24I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land.
25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
26And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
28You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
29And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you.
30I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations.
31Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominations.
32It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord God; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.
33"Thus says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt.
34And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by.
35And they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’
New International Version
8" ‘But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home.
9I am concerned for you and will look on you with favor; you will be plowed and sown,
10and I will cause many people to live on you—yes, all of Israel. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
11I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
12I will cause people, my people Israel, to live on you. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; you will never again deprive them of their children.
13" ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because some say to you, "You devour people and deprive your nation of its children,"
14therefore you will no longer devour people or make your nation childless, declares the Sovereign Lord.
15No longer will I make you hear the taunts of the nations, and no longer will you suffer the scorn of the peoples or cause your nation to fall, declares the Sovereign Lord.’ "
16Again the word of the Lord came to me:
17"Son of man, when the people of Israel were living in their own land, they defiled it by their conduct and their actions. Their conduct was like a woman’s monthly uncleanness in my sight.
18So I poured out my wrath on them because they had shed blood in the land and because they had defiled it with their idols.
19I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered through the countries; I judged them according to their conduct and their actions.
20And wherever they went among the nations they profaned my holy name, for it was said of them, ‘These are the Lord’s people, and yet they had to leave his land.’
21I had concern for my holy name, which the people of Israel profaned among the nations where they had gone.
22"Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone.
23I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
24" ‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.
25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
26I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
27And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
28Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.
29I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you.
30I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine.
31Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices.
32I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign Lord. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, people of Israel!
33" ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt.
34The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it.
35They will say, "This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited."

Chapter 36
7Therefore thus says the Lord God: “I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame. 8But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people Israel, for they are about to come. 9For indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown. 10I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. 11I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bear young; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. 12Yes, I will cause men to walk on you, My people Israel; they shall take possession of you, and you shall be their inheritance; no more shall you bereave them of children.”
13‘Thus says the Lord God: “Because they say to you, ‘You devour men and bereave your nation of children,’
14therefore you shall devour men no more, nor bereave your nation anymore,” says the Lord God.
15“Nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations anymore, nor bear the reproach of the peoples anymore, nor shall you cause your nation to stumble anymore,” says the Lord God.’ ”
16Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
17“Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds; to Me their way was like the uncleanness of a woman in her customary impurity.
18Therefore I poured out My fury on them for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols with which they had defiled it.
19So I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries; I judged them according to their ways and their deeds.
20When they came to the nations, wherever they went, they profaned My holy name—when they said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord, and yet they have gone out of His land.’
21But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations wherever they went.
22“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.
23And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord,” says the Lord God, “when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.
24For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.
25Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
26I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
28Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God.
29I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. I will call for the grain and multiply it, and bring no famine upon you.
30And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations.
31Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations.
32Not for your sake do I do this,” says the Lord God, “let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel!”
33‘Thus says the Lord God: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt.
34The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by.
35So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’
