Chapter 4

13Then the Lord said, 'In this way the sons of Israel will eat their bread unclean among the nations where I will scatter them.' 14But I said, 'Oh, Lord God! Behold, I have never been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by animals, nor has any unclean meat ever entered my mouth!' 15Then He said to me, 'See, I will give you cow’s dung in place of human dung, so that you may prepare your bread over it.' 16Moreover, He said to me, 'Son of man, behold, I am going to break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and drink water by measure and in horror, 17because bread and water will be scarce; and they will tremble with one another and waste away in their guilt.

13And the Lord said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, whither I will drive them.
14Then said I, Ah Lord God! behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth.
15Then he said unto me, Lo, I have given thee cow's dung for man's dung, and thou shalt prepare thy bread therewith.
16Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment: 17That they may want bread and water, and be astonied one with another, and consume away for their iniquity.

Chapter 4

13The Lord said, "This is how the Israelites will eat their bread—ceremonially unclean—among the nations where I will banish them."
14But I said, "Oh, Lord God, I have never been defiled. From my youth until now I have not eaten anything that died naturally or was mauled by wild beasts. And impure meat has never entered my mouth."
15He replied to me, "Look, I will let you use cow dung instead of human excrement, and you can make your bread over that." 16He said to me, "Son of man, I am going to cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem. They will anxiously eat food they have weighed out and in dread drink rationed water 17for lack of bread and water. Everyone will be devastated and waste away because of their iniquity.

Chapter 4

13Then the Lord said, 'This is how Israel will eat defiled bread in the Gentile lands to which I will banish them!'
14Then I said, 'O Sovereign Lord, must I be defiled by using human dung? For I have never been defiled before. From the time I was a child until now I have never eaten any animal that died of sickness or was killed by other animals. I have never eaten any meat forbidden by the law.'
15All right,' the Lord said. 'You may bake your bread with cow dung instead of human dung.' 16Then he told me, 'Son of man, I will make food very scarce in Jerusalem. It will be weighed out with great care and eaten fearfully. The water will be rationed out drop by drop, and the people will drink it with dismay. 17Lacking food and water, people will look at one another in terror, and they will waste away under their punishment.

From my youth up till now I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has tainted meat come into my mouth." 15Then he said to me, "See, I assign to you cow 's dung instead of human dung, on which you may prepare your bread." 16Moreover, he said to me, "Son of man, behold, I will break the supply of bread in Jerusalem. They shall eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and they shall drink water by measure and in dismay. 17I will do this that they may lack bread and water, and look at one another in dismay, and rot away because of their punishment.

14Then I said, "Not so, Sovereign Lord! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have never eaten anything found dead or torn by wild animals. No impure meat has ever entered my mouth."
15"Very well," he said, "I will let you bake your bread over cow dung instead of human excrement."
16He then said to me: "Son of man, I am about to cut off the food supply in Jerusalem. The people will eat rationed food in anxiety and drink rationed water in despair, 17for food and water will be scarce. They will be appalled at the sight of each other and will waste away because of their sin.
