Genesis 2:11-24
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
11The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there as well. 13The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush. 14The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and tend it.
16The Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'From any tree of the garden you may freely eat;
17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for on the day that you eat from it you will certainly die.'
18Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.'
19And out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.
20The man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.
21So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.
22And the Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

Chapter 2
11The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Chapter 2
11The name of the first is Pishon, which flows through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12Gold from that land is pure; bdellium and onyx are also there. 13The name of the second river is Gihon, which flows through the entire land of Cush. 14The name of the third river is Tigris, which runs east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.
16And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree of the garden,
17but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die."
18Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper corresponding to him."
19The Lord God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.
20The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man no helper was found corresponding to him.
21So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place.
22Then the Lord God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
11The first branch, called the Pishon, flowed around the entire land of Havilah, where gold is found. 12The gold of that land is exceptionally pure; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there. 13The second branch, called the Gihon, flowed around the entire land of Cush. 14The third branch, called the Tigris, flowed east of the land of Asshur. The fourth branch is called the Euphrates.
15The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.
16But the Lord God warned him, 'You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden —
17except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.'
18Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.'
19So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one.
20He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him.

18Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him."
19Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
20The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.
