Genesis 2:2-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
2By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
4This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven.
5Now no shrub of the field was yet on the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.
6But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground.
7Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living person.
8The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.
9Out of the ground the Lord God caused every tree to grow that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers.
11The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there as well.
13The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush.
14The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

Chapter 2
2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
5And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

Chapter 2
2On the seventh day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it he rested from all his work of creation.
4These are the records of the heavens and the earth, concerning their creation. At the time that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
5no shrub of the field had yet grown on the land, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not made it rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground.
6But mist would come up from the earth and water all the ground.
7Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
8The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he placed the man he had formed.
9The Lord God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10A river went out from Eden to water the garden. From there it divided and became the source of four rivers.
11The name of the first is Pishon, which flows through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12Gold from that land is pure; bdellium and onyx are also there.
13The name of the second river is Gihon, which flows through the entire land of Cush.
14The name of the third river is Tigris, which runs east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

Chapter 2
2On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.
4This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth. When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
5neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the Lord God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil.
6Instead, springs came up from the ground and watered all the land.
7Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
8Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made.
9The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground — trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10A river flowed from the land of Eden, watering the garden and then dividing into four branches.
11The first branch, called the Pishon, flowed around the entire land of Havilah, where gold is found.
12The gold of that land is exceptionally pure; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there.
13The second branch, called the Gihon, flowed around the entire land of Cush.
14The third branch, called the Tigris, flowed east of the land of Asshur. The fourth branch is called the Euphrates.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
5When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up — for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,
6and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground —
7then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
8And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.
