Genesis 43:8-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 43
8
So Judah said to his father Israel, 'Send the boy with me and we will arise and go, so that we may live and not die, we as well as you and our little ones.
9
I myself will take responsibility for him! You may demand him back from me. If I do not bring him
back
to you and present him to you, then you can let me take the blame forever.
10
For if we had not delayed, surely by now we could have returned twice.'
11
Then their father Israel said to them, 'If
it must be
so, then do this: take some of the best products of the land in your bags, and carry down to the man as a gift, a little balsam and a little honey, labdanum resin and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds.
King James Version
Chapter 43
8
And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
9
I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:
10
For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.
11
And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

Chapter 43
8
Then Judah said to his father Israel, "Send the boy with me. We will be on our way so that we may live and not die—neither we, nor you, nor our dependents.
9
I will be responsible for him. You can hold me personally accountable! If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, I will be guilty before you forever.
10
If we had not delayed, we could have come back twice by now."
11
Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be so, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your packs and take them down to the man as a gift—a little balsam and a little honey, aromatic gum and resin, pistachios and almonds.
New Living Translation
Chapter 43
8
Judah said to his father, 'Send the boy with me, and we will be on our way. Otherwise we will all die of starvation — and not only we, but you and our little ones.
9
I personally guarantee his safety. You may hold me responsible if I don’t bring him back to you. Then let me bear the blame forever.
10
If we hadn’t wasted all this time, we could have gone and returned twice by now.'
11
So their father, Jacob, finally said to them, 'If it can’t be avoided, then at least do this. Pack your bags with the best products of this land. Take them down to the man as gifts — balm, honey, gum, aromatic resin, pistachio nuts, and almonds.
English Standard Version
Chapter 43
8
And Judah said to Israel his father, "Send the boy with me, and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, both we and you and also our little ones.
9
I will be a pledge of his safety. From my hand you shall require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.
10
If we had not delayed, we would now have returned twice."
11
Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be so, then do this: take some of the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry a present down to the man, a little balm and a little honey, gum, myrrh, pistachio nuts, and almonds.
New International Version
Chapter 43
8
Then Judah said to Israel his father, "Send the boy along with me and we will go at once, so that we and you and our children may live and not die.
9
I myself will guarantee his safety; you can hold me personally responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life.
10
As it is, if we had not delayed, we could have gone and returned twice."
11
Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your bags and take them down to the man as a gift—a little balm and a little honey, some spices and myrrh, some pistachio nuts and almonds.
