Chapter 2

6For this is what the Lord of armies says: ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land. 7I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord of armies. 8‘The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,’ declares the Lord of armies. 9‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of armies, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares the Lord of armies.'
10On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet, saying, 11The Lord of armies says this: ‘Now ask the priests for a ruling: 12If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and touches bread with this fold, or touches cooked food, wine, oil, or any other food, will it become holy?’?' And the priests answered, 'No.' 13Then Haggai said, 'If one who is unclean from a corpse touches any of these things, will the latter become unclean?' And the priests answered, 'It will become unclean.' 14Then Haggai responded and said, '?‘So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean. 15But now, do consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the Lord,

6For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts. 8The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. 9The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts. 10In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying, 11Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, 12If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
13Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. 14Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. 15And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord:

6For the Lord of Armies says this: "Once more, in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. 7I will shake all the nations so that the treasures of all the nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory," says the Lord of Armies. 8"The silver and gold belong to me"—this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies. 9"The final glory of this house will be greater than the first," says the Lord of Armies. "I will provide peace in this place" —this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies.
10On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Haggai: 11"This is what the Lord of Armies says: Ask the priests for a ruling.
12If a man is carrying consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does it become holy?" The priests answered, "No."
13Then Haggai asked, "If someone defiled by contact with a corpse touches any of these, does it become defiled?" The priests answered, "It becomes defiled."
14Then Haggai replied, "So is this people, and so is this nation before me—this is the Lord’s declaration. And so is every work of their hands; even what they offer there is defiled.
15"Now from this day on, think carefully: Before one stone was placed on another in the Lord’s temple,

6For this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: In just a little while I will again shake the heavens and the earth, the oceans and the dry land. 7I will shake all the nations, and the treasures of all the nations will be brought to this Temple. I will fill this place with glory, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. 8The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. 9The future glory of this Temple will be greater than its past glory, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. And in this place I will bring peace. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!'
10On December 18 of the second year of King Darius’s reign, the Lord sent this message to the prophet Haggai: 11This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says. Ask the priests this question about the law:
12‘If one of you is carrying some meat from a holy sacrifice in his robes and his robe happens to brush against some bread or stew, wine or olive oil, or any other kind of food, will it also become holy?’' The priests replied, 'No.'
13Then Haggai asked, 'If someone becomes ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person and then touches any of these foods, will the food be defiled?' And the priests answered, 'Yes.'
14Then Haggai responded, 'That is how it is with this people and this nation, says the Lord. Everything they do and everything they offer is defiled by their sin. 15Look at what was happening to you before you began to lay the foundation of the Lord’s Temple.

15" ‘Now give careful thought to this from this day on —consider how things were before one stone was laid on another in the Lord’s temple.

14Then Haggai answered and said, “ ‘So is this people, and so is this nation before Me,’ says the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
15‘And now, carefully consider from this day forward: from before stone was laid upon stone in the temple of the Lord—
