Chapter 13
1When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. He exalted himself in Israel, But through Baal he incurred guilt and died. 2And now they sin more and more, And make for themselves cast metal images, Idols skillfully made from their silver, All of them the work of craftsmen. They say of them, 'Let the people who sacrifice kiss the calves!' 3Therefore they will be like the morning cloud And like dew which soon disappears, Like chaff which is blown away from the threshing floor, And like smoke from a chimney. 4Yet I have been the Lord your God Since the land of Egypt; And you were not to know any god except Me, For there is no savior besides Me. 5I cared for you in the wilderness, In the land of drought. 6As they had their pasture, they became satisfied, And as they became satisfied, their heart became proud; Therefore they forgot Me. 7So I will be like a lion to them; Like a leopard I will lie in wait by the wayside. 8I will confront them like a bear deprived of her cubs, And I will tear open their chests; I will also devour them there like a lioness, As a wild animal would tear them to pieces. 9 It is to your own destruction, Israel, That you are against Me, against your help. 10Where then is your king, That he might save you in all your cities; And your judges, to whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes'? 11I gave you a king in My anger, And took him away in My wrath. 12The guilt of Ephraim is wrapped up; His sin is stored up. 13The pains of childbirth come on him; He is not a wise son, For it is not the time that he should delay at the opening of the womb. 14Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol? Shall I redeem them from death? Death, where are your thorns? Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion will be hidden from My sight.King James Version
Chapter 13
1When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
3Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
4Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
8I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
9O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.
11I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.
12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.
13The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
14I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

1When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal and died. 2Now they continue to sin and make themselves a cast image, idols skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. People say about them, "Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves." 3Therefore, they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor, or like smoke from a window. 4I have been the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and no Savior exists besides me. 5I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought. 6When they had pasture, they became satisfied; they were satisfied, and their hearts became proud. Therefore they forgot me. 7So I will be like a lion to them; I will lurk like a leopard on the path. 8I will attack them like a bear robbed of her cubs and tear open the rib cage over their hearts. I will devour them there like a lioness, like a wild beast that would rip them open.
9I will destroy you, Israel; you have no help but me.
10Where now is your king, that he may save you in all your cities, and the rulers you demanded, saying, "Give me a king and leaders"?
11I give you a king in my anger and take away a king in my wrath.
12Ephraim’s guilt is preserved; his sin is stored up.

Chapter 13
1When the tribe of Ephraim spoke, the people shook with fear, for that tribe was important in Israel. But the people of Ephraim sinned by worshiping Baal and thus sealed their destruction. 2Now they continue to sin by making silver idols, images shaped skillfully with human hands. 'Sacrifice to these,' they cry, 'and kiss the calf idols!' 3Therefore, they will disappear like the morning mist, like dew in the morning sun, like chaff blown by the wind, like smoke from a chimney.
4'I have been the Lord your God ever since I brought you out of Egypt. You must acknowledge no God but me, for there is no other savior.
5I took care of you in the wilderness, in that dry and thirsty land.
6But when you had eaten and were satisfied, you became proud and forgot me.
7So now I will attack you like a lion, like a leopard that lurks along the road.
8Like a bear whose cubs have been taken away, I will tear out your heart. I will devour you like a hungry lioness and mangle you like a wild animal.
9'You are about to be destroyed, O Israel — yes, by me, your only helper.
10Now where is your king? Let him save you! Where are all the leaders of the land, the king and the officials you demanded of me?
11In my anger I gave you kings, and in my fury I took them away.

It is said of them, "Those who offer human sacrifice kiss calves!" 3Therefore they shall be like the morning mist or like the dew that goes early away, like the chaff that swirls from the threshing floor or like smoke from a window. 4But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior. 5 It was I who knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought; 6 but when they had grazed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore they forgot me. 7So I am to them like a lion; like a leopard I will lurk beside the way. 8I will fall upon them like a bear robbed of her cubs; I will tear open their breast, and there I will devour them like a lion, as a wild beast would rip them open. 9He destroys you, O Israel, for you are against me, against your helper. 10 Where now is your king, to save you in all your cities? But he became guilty of Baal worship and died. 2Now they sin more and more; they make idols for themselves from their silver, cleverly fashioned images, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of these people, "They offer human sacrifices! They kiss calf-idols!"
3Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears, like chaff swirling from a threshing floor, like smoke escaping through a window.
4"But I have been the Lord your God ever since you came out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me.
5I cared for you in the wilderness, in the land of burning heat.
6When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.
7So I will be like a lion to them, like a leopard I will lurk by the path.
8Like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will attack them and rip them open; like a lion I will devour them— a wild animal will tear them apart.
9"You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me, against your helper.
10Where is your king, that he may save you? Where are your rulers in all your towns, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’?
11So in my anger I gave you a king, and in my wrath I took him away.
12The guilt of Ephraim is stored up, his sins are kept on record.
