Hosea 3:1-5
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
1
Then the
Lord
said to me, 'Go again, love a woman
who
is loved by
her
husband, yet is committing adultery, as the
Lord
loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.'
2
So I purchased her for myself for fifteen
shekels
of silver, and a homer and a lethech of barley.
3
Then I said to her, 'You shall live with me for many days. You shall not play the prostitute, nor shall you have
another
man; so I will also be toward you.'
4
For the sons of Israel will live for many days without a king or leader, without sacrifice or memorial stone, and without ephod or household idols.
5
Afterward the sons of Israel will return and seek the
Lord
their God and David their king; and they will come trembling to the
Lord
and to His goodness in the last days.
King James Version
Chapter 3
1
Then said the
Lord
unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the
Lord
toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
2
So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
3
And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
4
For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:
5
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the
Lord
their God, and David their king; and shall fear the
Lord
and his goodness in the latter days.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 3
1
Then the
Lord
said to me, "Go again; show love to a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, just as the
Lord
loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes."
2
So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and five bushels of barley.
3
I said to her, "You are to live with me many days. You must not be promiscuous or belong to any man, and I will act the same way toward you."
4
For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, and without ephod or household idols.
5
Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the
Lord
their God and David their king. They will come with awe to the
Lord
and to his goodness in the last days.
New Living Translation
Chapter 3
1
Then the
Lord
said to me, 'Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the
Lord
still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them. '
2
So I bought her back for fifteen pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure of wine.
3
Then I said to her, 'You must live in my house for many days and stop your prostitution. During this time, you will not have sexual relations with anyone, not even with me. '
4
This shows that Israel will go a long time without a king or prince, and without sacrifices, sacred pillars, priests, or even idols!
5
But afterward the people will return and devote themselves to the
Lord
their God and to David’s descendant, their king. In the last days, they will tremble in awe of the
Lord
and of his goodness.
English Standard Version
Chapter 3
1
And the
Lord
said to me, "Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the
Lord
loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love cakes of raisins."
2
So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley.
3
And I said to her, "You must dwell as mine for many days. You shall not play the whore, or belong to another man; so will I also be to you."
4
For the children of Israel shall dwell many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillar, without ephod or household gods.
5
Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the
Lord
their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the
Lord
and to his goodness in the latter days.
New International Version
Chapter 3
1
The
Lord
said to me, "Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the
Lord
loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes."
2
So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley.
3
Then I told her, "You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you."
4
For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or household gods.
5
Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the
Lord
their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the
Lord
and to his blessings in the last days.
New King James Version
Chapter 3
1
Then the
Lord
said to me, “Go again, love a woman
who is
loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the
Lord
for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love
the
raisin cakes
of the pagans.
”
2
So I bought her for myself for fifteen
shekels
of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley.
3
And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too,
will
I
be
toward you.”
4
For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or
sacred
pillar, without ephod or teraphim.
5
Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the
Lord
their God and David their king. They shall fear the
Lord
and His goodness in the latter days.
