Chapter 1

9Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, 'Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
10See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to tear down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant.'
11And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'What do you see, Jeremiah?' And I said, 'I see a branch of an almond tree.' 12Then the Lord said to me, 'You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.'
13And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, 'What do you see?' And I said, 'I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.' 14Then the Lord said to me, 'Out of the north the evil will be unleashed on all the inhabitants of the land. 15For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,' declares the Lord; 'and they will come and place, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the cities of Judah.

9Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. 10See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. 11Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. 12Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
13And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north. 14Then the Lord said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. 15For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

9Then the Lord reached out his hand, touched my mouth, and told me: I have now filled your mouth with my words. 10See, I have appointed you today over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant.
11Then the word of the Lord came to me, asking, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" I replied, "I see a branch of an almond tree."
12The Lord said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I watch over my word to accomplish it."
13Again the word of the Lord came to me asking, "What do you see?" And I replied, "I see a boiling pot, its lip tilted from the north to the south."
14Then the Lord said to me, "Disaster will be poured out from the north on all who live in the land.
15Indeed, I am about to summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north." This is the Lord’s declaration. They will come, and each king will set up his throne at the entrance to Jerusalem’s gates. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the other cities of Judah.

9Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said, 'Look, I have put my words in your mouth! 10Today I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow. Others you must build up and plant.'
11Then the Lord said to me, 'Look, Jeremiah! What do you see?' And I replied, 'I see a branch from an almond tree.'
12And the Lord said, 'That’s right, and it means that I am watching, and I will certainly carry out all my plans.'
13Then the Lord spoke to me again and asked, 'What do you see now?' And I replied, 'I see a pot of boiling water, spilling from the north.'
14Yes,' the Lord said, 'for terror from the north will boil out on the people of this land.
15Listen! I am calling the armies of the kingdoms of the north to come to Jerusalem. I, the Lord, have spoken! 'They will set their thrones at the gates of the city. They will attack its walls and all the other towns of Judah.
