Jeremiah 36:16-24
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 36
16When they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one to another. And they said to Baruch, 'We will certainly report all these words to the king.' 17Then they asked Baruch, saying, 'Tell us, please, how did you write all these words? Was it at Jeremiah’s dictation?' 18And Baruch said to them, 'He dictated all these words to me, and I wrote them with ink on the book.' 19Then the officials said to Baruch, 'Go, hide yourself, you and Jeremiah, and do not let anyone know where you are.'
20So they came to the king in the courtyard, but they had deposited the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they reported all the words to the king.
21Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it to the king as well as to all the officials who were standing beside the king.
22Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, with a fire burning in the brazier before him.
23And when Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with a scribe’s knife and threw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all of the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.
24Yet the king and all his servants who heard all these words did not tremble in fear, nor did they tear their garments.

Chapter 36
16Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 17And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 18Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 19Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
20And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
21So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
22Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
23And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
24Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

Chapter 36
16When they had heard all the words, they turned to each other in fear and said to Baruch, "We must surely tell the king all these things." 17Then they asked Baruch, "Tell us, how did you write all these words? At his dictation?"
19The officials said to Baruch, "You and Jeremiah must hide and tell no one where you are."
20Then, after depositing the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, the officials came to the king at the courtyard and reported everything in the hearing of the king.
21The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi then read it in the hearing of the king and all the officials who were standing by the king.
22Since it was the ninth month, the king was sitting in his winter quarters with a fire burning in front of him.
23As soon as Jehudi would read three or four columns, Jehoiakim would cut the scroll with a scribe’s knife and throw the columns into the fire in the hearth until the entire scroll was consumed by the fire in the hearth.
24As they heard all these words, the king and all of his servants did not become terrified or tear their clothes.

Chapter 36
16When they heard all the messages, they looked at one another in alarm. 'We must tell the king what we have heard,' they said to Baruch. 17But first, tell us how you got these messages. Did they come directly from Jeremiah?'
19You and Jeremiah should both hide,' the officials told Baruch. 'Don’t tell anyone where you are!'
20Then the officials left the scroll for safekeeping in the room of Elishama the secretary and went to tell the king what had happened.
21The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought it from Elishama’s room and read it to the king as all his officials stood by.
22It was late autumn, and the king was in a winterized part of the palace, sitting in front of a fire to keep warm.
23Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king took a knife and cut off that section of the scroll. He then threw it into the fire, section by section, until the whole scroll was burned up.
24Neither the king nor his attendants showed any signs of fear or repentance at what they heard.

20After they put the scroll in the room of Elishama the secretary, they went to the king in the courtyard and reported everything to him.
