Job 42:1-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 42
1Then Job answered the Lord and said,
2'I know that You can do all things, And that no plan is impossible for You.
3‘Who is this who conceals advice without knowledge?’ Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I do not know.
4‘Please listen, and I will speak; I will ask You, and You instruct me.’
5I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You;
6Therefore I retract, And I repent, sitting on dust and ashes.'
King James Version
Chapter 42
1Then Job answered the Lord, and said, 2I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
6Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
7And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

Chapter 42
1Then Job replied to the Lord:
2I know that you can do anything and no plan of yours can be thwarted.
3You asked, "Who is this who conceals my counsel with ignorance?" Surely I spoke about things I did not understand, things too wondrous for me to know.
4You said, "Listen now, and I will speak. When I question you, you will inform me."
5I had heard reports about you, but now my eyes have seen you.
6Therefore, I reject my words and am sorry for them; I am dust and ashes.
New Living Translation
Chapter 42
1Then Job replied to the Lord:
2'I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.
3You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I — and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.
4You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’
5I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
6I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.'

1Then Job answered the Lord and said:
2"I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

4‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’
5I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;
6therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."
7After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite: "My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.
