John 1:13-22

Chapter 1

13who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.
14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15John *testified about Him and called out, saying, 'This was He of whom I said, ‘He who is coming after me has proved to be my superior, because He existed before me.’?' 16For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18No one has seen God at any time; God the only Son, who is in the arms of the Father, He has explained Him.
19This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites to him from Jerusalem to ask him, 'Who are you?' 20And he confessed and did not deny; and this is what he confessed: 'I am not the Christ.' 21And so they asked him, 'What then? Are you Elijah?' And he *said, 'I am not.' 'Are you the Prophet?' And he answered, 'No.' 22Then they said to him, 'Who are you? Tell us, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?'

19And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? 20And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. 21And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. 22Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. 14The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15(John testified concerning him and exclaimed, "This was the one of whom I said, ‘The one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’") 16Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from his fullness, 17for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side—he has revealed him.
19This was John’s testimony when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, "Who are you?"
20He didn’t deny it but confessed: "I am not the Messiah."
21"What then?" they asked him. "Are you Elijah?" "I am not," he said. "Are you the Prophet?" "No," he answered.
22"Who are you, then?" they asked. "We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?"

Chapter 1

13They are reborn — not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
14So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
15John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, 'This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’'
16From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
19This was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants from Jerusalem to ask John, 'Who are you?' 20He came right out and said, 'I am not the Messiah.'
21Well then, who are you?' they asked. 'Are you Elijah?' 'No,' he replied. 'Are you the Prophet we are expecting?' 'No.'
22Then who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?'
