John 12:36-50
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
36While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.' These things Jesus proclaimed, and He went away and hid Himself from them. 37But though He had performed so many signs in their sight, they still were not believing in Him. 38This happened so that the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke would be fulfilled: 'Lord, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE Lord BEEN REVEALED?' 39For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WILL NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED, AND so I WILL not heal them.' 41These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke about Him. 42Nevertheless many, even of the rulers, believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, so that they would not be excommunicated from the synagogue; 43for they loved the approval of people rather than the approval of God.
44Now Jesus cried out and said, 'The one who believes in Me, does not believe only in Me, but also in Him who sent Me.
45And the one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.
46I have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness.
47If anyone hears My teachings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48The one who rejects Me and does not accept My teachings has one who judges him: the word which I spoke. That will judge him on the last day.
49For I did not speak on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.
50And I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.'
King James Version
37But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
38That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
40He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
43For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

42Nevertheless, many did believe in him even among the rulers, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, so that they would not be banned from the synagogue.
43For they loved human praise more than praise from God.
44Jesus cried out, "The one who believes in me believes not in me, but in him who sent me.
45And the one who sees me sees him who sent me.
46I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness.
47If anyone hears my words and doesn’t keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
48The one who rejects me and doesn’t receive my sayings has this as his judge: The word I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
49For I have not spoken on my own, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a command to say everything I have said.
50I know that his command is eternal life. So the things that I speak, I speak just as the Father has told me."
New Living Translation
41Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah’s glory.
42Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.
43For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.
44Jesus shouted to the crowds, 'If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me.
45For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me.
46I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.
47I will not judge those who hear me but don’t obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it.
48But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken.
49I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.
50And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.'
English Standard Version
37Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him,
38so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
40 "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them."
41Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.
42Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;
43for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
44And Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.
45And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.
46I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
47If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
48The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
49For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment — what to say and what to speak.
50And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me."
New International Version
42Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;
43for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
44Then Jesus cried out, "Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.
45The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.
46I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47"If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
49For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.
50I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
New King James Version
