Chapter 12
5Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the proceeds given to poor people?' 6Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he kept the money box, he used to steal from what was put into it. 7Therefore Jesus said, 'Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial. 8For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.'
9The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead.
10But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also,
11because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
12On the next day, when the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, 'Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE Lord, indeed, the King of Israel!'
14Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:

5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 6This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. 7Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. 8For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

5"Why wasn’t this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" 6He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.
7Jesus answered, "Leave her alone; she has kept it for the day of my burial.
8For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me."

5That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.' 6Not that he cared for the poor — he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself.
7Jesus replied, 'Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial.
8You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.'

9When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,
11because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.
12The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
13So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!"

5"Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages. " 6He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.
8You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."
9Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,
11for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.

9Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.
