21So Peter, upon seeing him, *said to Jesus, 'Lord, and what about this man?' 22Jesus *said to him, 'If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!' 23Therefore this account went out among the brothers, that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, 'If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?'King James Version

21Peter asked Jesus, 'What about him, Lord?'
22Jesus replied, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.'
23So the rumor spread among the community of believers that this disciple wouldn’t die. But that isn’t what Jesus said at all. He only said, 'If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?'

21When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?" 22Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!" 23So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?"New International Version
