Chapter 6

3But Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. 4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. 5So Jesus, after raising His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, *said to Philip, 'Where are we to buy bread so that these people may eat?' 6But He was saying this only to test him, for He Himself knew what He intended to do. 7Philip answered Him, 'Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not enough for them, for each to receive just a little!' 8One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, *said to Him, 9There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many people?'

3And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. 4And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. 5When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat 6And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. 8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, 9There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

3Jesus went up a mountain and sat down there with his disciples.
4Now the Passover, a Jewish festival, was near. 5So when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward him, he asked Philip, "Where will we buy bread so that these people can eat?" 6He asked this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do.
7Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread wouldn’t be enough for each of them to have a little."
8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9"There’s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish—but what are they for so many?"

3Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. 4(It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) 5Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, 'Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?' 6He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.
7Philip replied, 'Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!'
8Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?'

7Philip answered him, "It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!"
8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"
