Chapter 6

6But He was saying this only to test him, for He Himself knew what He intended to do. 7Philip answered Him, 'Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not enough for them, for each to receive just a little!' 8One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, *said to Him, 9There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many people?' 10Jesus said, 'Have the people recline to eat.' Now there was plenty of grass in the place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. 11Jesus then took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were reclining; likewise also of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12And when they had eaten their fill, He *said to His disciples, 'Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost.'

Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

10Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place; so they sat down. The men numbered about five thousand. 11Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks he distributed them to those who were seated—so also with the fish, as much as they wanted.
12When they were full, he told his disciples, "Collect the leftovers so that nothing is wasted."

6He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.
7Philip replied, 'Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!'
8Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?'
10Tell everyone to sit down,' Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. 12After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, 'Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.'

7Philip answered him, "It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!"
8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"
10Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
