Chapter 8
1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning He came again into the temple area, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began teaching them. 3Now the scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in the act of adultery, and after placing her in the center of the courtyard, 4they *said to Him, 'Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of committing adultery. 5Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?' 6Now they were saying this to test Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. 7When they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up and said to them, 'He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.'King James Version
Chapter 8
1Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 8
1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
3Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, making her stand in the center.
4"Teacher," they said to him, "this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery.
5In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?"
6They asked this to trap him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse him. Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger.
7When they persisted in questioning him, he stood up and said to them, "The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her."
