John 9:18-26

Chapter 9
18The Jews then did not believe it about him, that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight, 19and they questioned them, saying, 'Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?' 20His parents then answered and said, 'We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; 21but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.' 22His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already reached the decision that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be excommunicated from the synagogue. 23It was for this reason that his parents said, 'He is of age; ask him.'
24So for a second time they summoned the man who had been blind, and said to him, 'Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.'
25He then answered, 'Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.'
26So they said to him, 'What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?'

18But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. 19And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? 20His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: 21But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself. 22These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. 23Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
26Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

20"We know this is our son and that he was born blind," his parents answered.
21"But we don’t know how he now sees, and we don’t know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he’s of age. He will speak for himself."
22His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jews, since the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed him as the Messiah, he would be banned from the synagogue.
23This is why his parents said, "He’s of age; ask him."

18The Jewish leaders still refused to believe the man had been blind and could now see, so they called in his parents. 19They asked them, 'Is this your son? Was he born blind? If so, how can he now see?'
20His parents replied, 'We know this is our son and that he was born blind,
21but we don’t know how he can see or who healed him. Ask him. He is old enough to speak for himself.'
22His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who had announced that anyone saying Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from the synagogue.
23That’s why they said, 'He is old enough. Ask him.'
