John 9:23-40

Chapter 9

23It was for this reason that his parents said, 'He is of age; ask him.'
24So for a second time they summoned the man who had been blind, and said to him, 'Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.' 25He then answered, 'Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.' 26So they said to him, 'What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?' 27He answered them, 'I told you already and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?' 28They spoke abusively to him and said, 'You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where He is from.' 30The man answered and said to them, 'Well, here is the amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes! 31We know that God does not listen to sinners; but if someone is God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him. 32Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. 33If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.' 34They answered him, 'You were born entirely in sins, and yet you are teaching us?' So they put him out.
35Jesus heard that they had put him out, and upon finding him, He said, 'Do you believe in the Son of Man?' 36He answered by saying, 'And who is He, Sir, that I may believe in Him?' 37Jesus said to him, 'You have both seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you.' 38And he said, 'I believe, Lord.' And he worshiped Him. 39And Jesus said, 'For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.' 40Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him, 'We are not blind too, are we?'

23Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. 25He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. 26Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? 27He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? 28Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. 29We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. 30The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. 31Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. 32Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. 33If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. 34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God 36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. 39And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

24So a second time they summoned the man who had been blind and told him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."
25He answered, "Whether or not he’s a sinner, I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see!"
26Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
27"I already told you," he said, "and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t want to become his disciples too, do you?"
28They ridiculed him: "You’re that man’s disciple, but we’re Moses’s disciples. 29We know that God has spoken to Moses. But this man—we don’t know where he’s from."
30"This is an amazing thing!" the man told them. "You don’t know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does his will, he listens to him. 32Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind. 33If this man were not from God, he wouldn’t be able to do anything."
34"You were born entirely in sin," they replied, "and are you trying to teach us?" Then they threw him out.
35Jesus heard that they had thrown the man out, and when he found him, he asked, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
36"Who is he, Sir, that I may believe in him?" he asked.
37Jesus answered, "You have seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."
38"I believe, Lord!" he said, and he worshiped him.
39Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, in order that those who do not see will see and those who do see will become blind."
40Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things and asked him, "We aren’t blind too, are we?"

Chapter 9

23That’s why they said, 'He is old enough. Ask him.'
24So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, 'God should get the glory for this, because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.'
25I don’t know whether he is a sinner,' the man replied. 'But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!'
26But what did he do?' they asked. 'How did he heal you?'
27Look!' the man exclaimed. 'I told you once. Didn’t you listen? Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too?'
28Then they cursed him and said, 'You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses! 29We know God spoke to Moses, but we don’t even know where this man comes from.'
30Why, that’s very strange!' the man replied. 'He healed my eyes, and yet you don’t know where he comes from? 31We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will. 32Ever since the world began, no one has been able to open the eyes of someone born blind. 33If this man were not from God, he couldn’t have done it.'
34You were born a total sinner!' they answered. 'Are you trying to teach us?' And they threw him out of the synagogue.
35When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, 'Do you believe in the Son of Man? '
36The man answered, 'Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.'
37You have seen him,' Jesus said, 'and he is speaking to you!'
38Yes, Lord, I believe!' the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.
39Then Jesus told him, 'I entered this world to render judgment — to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.'
40Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked, 'Are you saying we’re blind?'

25He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"
26Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
27He answered, "I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?"
28Then they hurled insults at him and said, "You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses! 29We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from."
30The man answered, "Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. 31We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. 32Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."
34To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they threw him out.
35Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
36"Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him."
37Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."
